Well, that was a tough loss. At least we came away 1-1 going back home...oh wait is the game not over yet?

If I don't get them up ahead of time, then we just end up with 5 post game threads.
I hear ya. I just thought I'd get an early start since the game is already over.
It ain't over but it is over for me. Marlo came on and gave of some help in the post but this is a work in progress. Hate to cry like Ray about the refs but man they got a lot of calls. The bonnies hit everything. Our offensive sets did not result in open shots.

Alex had a big game.

Matt will never get many open looks without a post scorer and slasher that the other teams defense has to deal with 1st.

I have to go running and then look at the box score.
We are living and dying with the 3 so far.

Perimeter defense has been very good so far, though.

Alex bounced back with a vengeance.

Louzeiro made the most of his six minutes. 3 of 5 from the field and 3 rebounds.

No redshirts this year.

Again, good FT shooting.

Kibi only had 2 rebounds in 24 minutes.

This is a no-room-for error club without a post presence.
BTH said it as far as I am concerned.

Alex played 27 minutes and scored 21 points, & 5 RB an 2 Assists.
If you're going to live and die off perimeter shooting, you've got to run an offense to get them open shots. Same old crap as in the past. Seldom ever see Mouzy and Solo run off picks. Remember how Malik Dixon use to run off them?
I am sure both games the offense was just hustle points for the most part. We need a big in the post and that guy is Bails. Marlo looked pretty good too.

True, but we put a lot of stock in perimeter shooting normally, and we've got to have plays to get the shooters open. We don't do that. Watch Mouzy and Bozeman just stand around waiting for someone to pass them the ball. They do nothing to lose their defender. And normally no one comes up to give them a screen. I watched that numerous times today.

You are right. I get tired of watching nothing happen to get them open looks. I really think have Bails down low would provide something for the defense to key on and open that up.

We are all tired of watching a lack of motion with purpose on the offensive end. We are all tired of watching small ball. As much as Kibi and Jackson are probably liked by the staff, you can't play both at the same time and rebound. If you play that combo you have to press, which we did.

Like you Bob, I am ready to see some results. The results can come in the form of just seeing some growth, in other words, offense that produces a shot. I think we know Steve can get the defense to where it needs to be.

We have a couple of new pg's we are breaking in and hopefully they will do a better job at running the sets so they produce a chance to score.

Even the announcers on the stream made the comment that we did an awful lot of dribbling. Same old stuff. And always drive into the trees and try to score and draw fouls. We don't get our perimeter shooters open for shots. Never have, and probably never will as long as our offensive philosophy is to always go into the post. When I see no effort to get Solo or Matt the ball for open shots, it really makes me sad. It would be like the women's team never getting the ball to Chas. Just doesn't make sense to me.04-cheers

It seemed obvious to me the team was a step slow from the hectic travel schedule and the officiating was horrific. Every play seemed to bring a foul. Not that I feel we got shafted, but it just slowed the game down and made it not fun to watch. If the officials allow the players to play, even if you lose, it is fun to watch, but when they are blowing the whistles on every possession, it's maddening.

I don't think this game proves anything. As someone posted, it will take us 10 games before we know much about this team. And if we're going to go into the post every time, we need Bails. I would like to see a different type of offense (Joe Foley's motion would be great), but anything would be an improvement. I hate to see shooters like Solo and Matt wasted. 13 points between them. No excuse for that. Offense should be centered around those two. We are not good enough to score inside enough to offset a good team. We have to make some three's, and in order to do that you must endeavor to set up the perimeter shooters, which we don't seem to be able to do. Gee, I could swear I've heard that before. Like maybe a thousand times. What in the devil do we do in those closed practices?03-banghead
Here is a part of a post from the Bonnie board

Right after the opening tip off, I was stunned to see UALR in straight man defense. There wasn't any players dropping back to help in defending Andrew. I tell my son in law this man defense is not going to last long. Well I was wrong as UALR stayed in a man defense for the entire game. UALR's coach decision to play a man defense is the worst decision I've ever seen and was the biggest factor of this game. As for player performances"

Our outside shooters never get the open look they need because our slashers and big men never kick the ball back out to the perimeter. How many years have we been bitching about this very thing. We have some slashers, but they never seem to kick the ball back out to to the open shooter. I've resigned myself to the fact that we'll never have a very good perimeter game until our coaches realize that the three point play is as important as other aspects of the game.04-cheers

Make that "until we have a change in the head coaching position, one who can coach the offensive side of the game as well as the defensive side." I'm convinced that Shields cannot coach offensive basketball.

Well, it's "offensive" , alright. Just not in the "scoring points" sense 03-lol
