I Apologize to Chandler Harnish. I always thought he would be a decent MAC QB. I thought his lack of arm strength would limit him. I have seen the error of my ways. He is an outstanding MAC QB. He will probably be the MAC offensive player of the year (if Chad Spann isn't). He is a great runner, reads the defense well, and knows his limitations.

Chandler Harnish, I am sorry for having doubted you.

I am all that and more.
Harnish is playing at a completely different level than he did in years past. He made the leap this year and really put it all together. His play in all areas is just outstanding. I even liked it when he took the safety last night, good decision under the circumstances. My favorite play from last night was early in the game when he faced a heavy rush and was still able to get the pass off to Martel Moore for a big first down on the right sideline. That was clutch. Not to upset Chad Spann's brother but Harnish is the league MVP at this point. QB play is that important.

In fact you can chart the Huskies' fortunes over the last decade against their caliber of QB play and see that they match exactly. Early in the decade we had Haldi and had a lot of success. We had a good year in '05 with Horvath's great junior season until he got hurt. For the next four seasons we had mediocre QB play and correspondingly mediocre records. This year Harnish is playing great and the team is winning. Amazing how much fun it is with a good QB, especially on third down.

We forgive you. ;Now if only you would apologize for your other mistakes. Of course, that belongs on the S&N board. 03-wink
I don't know if I am drinking the koolaid, but does anyone else notice a sustantial improvement on the length and accuracy of his rare deep passes?

No doubt about it. The deep one early in the game to Willie Clark was a great throw, right on line and inside the back of the end zone. He just missed him by one step. And of course the TD to NaPalm was right on the money, Palmer barely had to move his hands.

My dad, the old WR he is, said Clark didn't run through the catch on that one. I didn't pay any attention to Clark until the ball was there. I, being the old lineman I am, was watching our fat kids push Toledo around and whacking off.

That one to Palmer was still a floater. He did not zip in in there. Palmer ran under it after getting good separation.

Dang, you guys see all the good stuff that I always seem to miss!! 04-jawdrop
Wonder how much of Harnish's improvement do we credit to our new quarterbacks coach?

I don't think there's any doubt that he's mattered.

How much is a little mysterious. How much is natural progression (more practice, more games, more workouts, more film study)? How much is intrinsic motivation from a player? How much is the coach? And then there's the x factor of sometimes things just finally click for someone and the pieces all align.

All I know is all that stuff is going on with Harnish right now.
And this is my apology to the Toledo fans for my classless thread I started after the game last night. I know we should lose with class and win with class and I guess I got ahead of myself last night asking "how was the a$$ woopin". Again, I should refrain from going on this board while heavily intoxicated. Good luck the rest of the way Toledo.

I though Harnish would take another step forward this year. He improved from his freshman to his sophmore season in just about area, so I figured he would progress and become one of the best QBs in the MAC this year.

However, I didn't think he'd be this good. His arm strength has surprised me. I'm not even just talking about deep balls either (the one to Palmer was a thing of beauty), Harnish makes some LONG throws on out routes. Look at the throw to Moore last night on third down. He was backing up and throwing off his back foot, and he still put velocity on the ball and get it to him.

Harnish makes a lot of throws on the move, and his arm strength has definatly improved.
Harnish really hasn't improved all that much. Unleashed is more like it. Because he didn't throw deep, many said he couldn't throw deep. Not true. He made some excellent throws last year and before that. Maybe he is also reading defenses a little better, but the bulk of the "improvement" is improved play calling and great offensive line play, and having big receivers step up instead of throwing jump balls to short guys. So, hats off to all those guys for their work this year.
Toledo fans, I'm sorry I called you homos. It's not your fault you're such homos.

It's funny because they weren't the ones hugging on national TV. 03-shhhh

Isn't it great to have WRs with some size that can go up and get the ball when necessary, and catch consistently? Has to give Harnish a lot of confidence. The Bears could use some WRs like that.

I was wrong about him too, and I dont think you can underestimate the role of Jerry Kill in bringing ou the best of him in the offseason and challenging him.
