So being that Spann's last home game is over, who is the next RB for NIU next season?
Daniels looks like the next Garrett Wolfe type back. He broke that Toledo player's ankle on that touchdown run. Hopkins can play. Bell is a bruiser. We will be ok next season.
Definitely going to be a battle next year with Bell, Hopkins, Daniels, unknown. Given what we know about the backs we've seen, i.e. Bell a bruiser, Hopkins and Daniels more shifty scat backs... I think we are likely to see a equitable time share similar to the Meco/Spann timeshare we witnessed in years past. Hopefully one back emerges as the feature back.
Daniels is a WR

I just hope that one of them doesn't step up, take over the coach's role, and decide who will be the featured RB! 04-jawdrop
Bell and Hopkins should be just fine back there. I'd think Bell is the featured back, Hopkins the change of pace / third down back that Me'Co Brown should have been.

For now. With Spann, Kill just wants to get the playmakers on the field. Akeem will play more runningback next year after Spann and Crider are gone.
43 Antione Kirkland RB 71 5-11 198 2 RS FR Boca Raton, FL/Olympic Heights
23 Devon Bailey TB 69 5-9 185 1 FR Detroit, Mich./Southfield Christian
32 Cameron Bell TB 74 6-2 242 6 RS JR Round Rock, TX/Stony Point/Iowa State
15 Jasmin Hopkins TB 69 5-9 174 5 JR Stanley, NC/East Gaston/Fort Scott C.C. (KS)
26 Trevor Jacobs TB 73 6-1 215 1 FR Wayne, NJ/Wayne Hills
35 Alan Smith TB 70 5-10 208 6 RS JR Naperville, IL/Neuqua Valley
20 James Spencer TB 71 5-11 180 1 FR Fremont, OH/Ross
30 Akeem Daniels WR/RB 67 5-7 180 1 FR Kissimmee, FL/Osceola

Hopefully we will still have a nice rotation. I gotta believe C Bell will be the featured guy though
Is Kirkland redshirting this year, or this is his redshirt year?

Kirkland Redshirted last year.
It will be Cameron "Ring Your" Bell.
Nice Stable of backs.
I do enjoy what I see of Cameron Bell. Just wish he got the ball a little bit more.

Have to say, Daniels is interesting.
Not too concerned about it at all.. Even if there isn't a featured back, it'll be a nice rotation.
I'd imagine like many others, that it will be Bell and Hopkins. I just see Daniels as the Jet Sweep guy.
Would be nice to see what Kirkland can do though

We're only seeing Daniels in the jet-sweep right now because it's a way to get him on the field without taking one of the other tailbacks off. He does the same thing each time, so it's not much of a freshman learning curve for him. It's also allowed Nathan Palmer to forget about his old role in that package and concentrate on actually being a real WR, which he's done.

Right now, I don't see Hopkins as a feature back at this level. I could be wrong, though.
Bottom line I think we need to recruit at least 2 RB's this year for the future. Given the roll we are on Kill should have no issue accomplishing this task. I think we will be ok next year its the following year I'm worried about at that position. Kirkland had a decent spring a year or two back and I've heard nothing from him since. Not a good sign for the future.
While I'd say Bell up the middle and Hopkins around the end.. :)

What I saw last night which makes me feel either one will be alright was good blocking upfront and from the FB Kyle Skarb.

I think we can handle the RB position but who going in at the Full Back spot. In our offense their just another blocker but I have to say they seem to spring a block that creates or keeps the holes from closing.

The OL look good and should be intact next year.

Just my opinion..
Losing Flahive and Skarb will hurt.. Scanning the roster, there are 7 FBs listed, so hopefully one of the 5 can replace the two departing seniors.
REmember a fast strong and big offensive line to create room for the RB's is also critical.

i maybe wrong but i think there is not a senior on the OL?
