Coaches should have prevented this from happening, how do you let one of our top RB's miss his court date from March? Thought on whether he will play on Thursday as JW is banged up...

Quote:An ECU football has been arrested again, this time for not showing up for court.

Running back Giavanni Ruffin was jailed for failure to appear on charges that date back in March. The running back was released on a $2,000 bond this morning.

The 22-year-old senior was originally arrested back in March with former player Brandon Jackson for being intoxicated and disruptive and resisting, obstructing and delay. Jackson was kicked off the team because of previous violations while Ruffin was suspended from the team.

The Pitt County Clerk's Office says Ruffin also failed to appear on speeding and no operators license charges from Perquimans County. The clerk says he had 20 days from October 22nd to appear on those charges before a warrant is issued.

Also has 20 days from Oct. 22nd to appear in Perquimans County on speeding and not having an ol or another warrant is coming! 05-nono
The Fulmer cup page is blocked at work.... have you moved up yet?
Just had a death in the family too and was out of town most of last week and did not practice, hence why Coach kept him out of the Navy game. Whitley is hopefully getting reps in practice this week!
Seriously, you are going to argue its the Coaches fault?

Yes, our at-least football operations... If one of my Marines had a court date out in town for lets say speeding or whatever, it was my responsibility to make sure he was present there. I don't see why it should be any different with scholarship athletes, especially one of your top RB's.

It's not the coaches fault, but they should have been monitoring the situation.
The police are busy in Greenville.. they arrested rapper Wiz Khalifa last night after performing on campus.
Giovanni Ruffin needs to be responsible for his actions not the coaches.

I don't like Norman Whitley. He has talent, but has a big attitude problem. That is why Skip and Junior Smith benched him.

Unless this scholarship athlete happens to be 8 years old, he should take enough responsibility to remember his own court date. This has nothing to do with the coaches, it has everything to do with an ADULT who didn't show up to court.

ok...
These kids aren't babies, they're grown men. Its all about personal repsonsibility. This guy failed in that regard.
The coaches should have been monitoring the situation, if only for self-serving purposes. They don't want to kick one of their top backs off the team.

I feel there may be more to the story than a lack of "personal responsibility." As many Pirates know, G had a death in the family last week and was out of town till late Wednesday night. He did not practice last week and who knows, his court date could have been Tuesday. Looking up court dates on the NC court system website, he is scheduled in PERQUIMANS county tomorrow on the AM docket which is kind of interesting considering the team is traveling tomorrow. Not sure what time the plane leaves Kinston, but likely mid-afternoon if past trips are any indication. Perquimans is about 2-2 1/2 hours from Kinston btw...

"According to head coach Ruffin McNeill Giavanni missed his court date because of uncles funeral and he will play against UAB. We will [WITN] have more from McNeill as soon as the interview with Brian Meador is in house."

I thought that whole situation is dumb, but FTR it was ECU police not Greenville.

Yup...maybe some people should find out all the facts before running around to every message board throwing the kid and coaches under the bus...
Just read the post from Weaver on the motherboard too. Great news and hopefully he has a stand out performance against UAB. I knew there was more to the story, and thought it was very uncharacteristic of him, at this point in his life. I apologize if me chastising the coaches offended anyone, just thought they would have been on top of this, which they obviously were to a certain extent.
I understand family emergencies, but I also know that if you even get a jury summons, you need judge permission out of it. Why would you just not show up and get arrested? Couldn't he get an excuse from court, or request the court date be moved? Again, you don't get much notice for a funeral, but he or his lawyer should have put in a request. You don't just not show up for court.

Like everything, there is more to the story that what is reported. And due to Ruffs personality, I will give them the benefit of the doubt.
Ok it makes a lot more sense that he missed it now. I am sorry that he has to deal with a death in the family. Still should've contacted the court house prior, but at least its not like he blew it off.
