Well, it was a nice daydream while it lasted. David Rivers has orally committed to Nebraska. Local boy or not, son of a former player or not, its tough to beat out a chance to play in the Big Ten.

Never really heard anything to make me think we would get David Rivers. It's sad, but HS players in our city have a much less positive view of UALR than players outside the State. They seem to believe if they tell their friends they're going to UALR, they will assume they couldn't do "better". Not sure if that will ever change. Even Mike Newell couldn't change that perception among Little Rock players. Neither could having a player with 5 NBA championship rings.
I won't argue that such an attitude about UALR does or does not exist. The strange thing to me is that perception does not seem to be the same for Womens Basketball. Last I checked the Trojan Women play in the same conference, practice and play in the same arena, live and attend classes in the same envionment as the Trojan Men. Maybe someone can explain why Coach Foley can bring in very good players. Realistically, very few BB players in this area have potential to be successful in D-1 BB. The Rivers guy may be the exception but, he may be over his head in the Big 10. Time will tell. Re: Derek Fisher? Read his book. Even the head coach at that time didn't want him at UALR.

I don't know much about women's basketball recruiting, but has Foley signed a highly recruited player out of Little Rock (I do know he has signed some good in State players)? I really don't know if he officially offered Charlay Burris (Parkview) who had offers from Arizona and Georgetown but has committed to UCA. Every kid is different. I think she wanted leave home, on one level, but Arizona and Georgetown were just too far.

I don't know of any LR players he has signed, but he has landed Jocelyn Love(West Memphis)and Kim Sitzman(Cabot), who were in-state players, and two of the best in the state at the time.
