Pretty disappointing, only Ohio is in the top 25. Usually the MAC has 2 or 3 in this poll to start things off. Kent State and Akron are poised for a big drop off this year.
5 others getting votes.
Not concerned about the pre-season. Win some out of conference games and things will take care of themselves.
The MAC is really down in Bball over the years and football for that matter.

The MAC use to pretty consistently have a team in the Top 25 for football for a good chunk of time (NIU, Toledo, Ball St. Miami etc) not nothing - sad!
Football should be fine, lots of new facilities around the league, this is just a down year. Temple, Toledo, NIU, WMU, among others all look like they'll be alright.
The MAC has been down in both sports in the last few years, no doubt. It was just 4 or 5 years ago and for several years prior that the MAC was ranked as high as I think the #10 conference overall for basketball. And it was almost always ranked in the top half of the listing of all the conferences nationwide (there are a lot of smaller school conferences, true, but still it was a good accomplishment for the MAC in my mind). I'd be interested in seeing where they are ranked this year as a conference. Bet it would still be higher than some of you would think - as I'm guessing the thoughts "last" or "near the bottom" came to mind to some of you. It just goes to show you that those who don't understand that the MAC really has been a decent basketball conference overall don't know that much about D-I college basketball on a national level.
OK. I had some time to search. Thought I'd post this before any posters came on here with emotional responses of the MAC being one of the very worst in the country for basketball. Save them the embarrassment.

Collegehoops.net had the MAC at #17 pre-season last year, one of the lowest rankings for the MAC in many years. But, there is also a lot of good, younger talent coming up. Some decent seniors have graduated the last 2 years. The MAC has to prove itself again with an upswing on the cycle.

Two years ago ESPN had a writer give his opinion of the conferences overall since 1984-85. The MAC was #17 on his list. Not sure what all went into the calculations, or if it was personal, subjective opinions.

CollegeHoops.com for the 2008-09 season had the MAC's 10-year average as #13.

Rivals.com two years ago had the MAC at #12 in the country for mens basketball.

Jeff Sagarin had the MAC at #15 at the end of last season. http://www.kiva.net/~jsagarin/sports/cbsend.htm

For this pre-season, BleacherReport has the MAC as the #16 conference in the country, out of 33 D-I conferences.
