Another pig arrested for possession of marijuana. I told you that you wouldn't believe it. If they'd start showing these guys the highway when they are arrested, the rest of them might get the idea. No second chances for criminals. I'm glad we don't have football. The more athletes you have, the more that are going to get into trouble. 04-cheers

I think they went the longest in recent memory without an arrest- at least a couple of months. The amazing thing is (I've heard this from police officers in Fayetteville while waiting in the witness room) law enforcement up there tries to look the other way when at all possible. They are definitely not on some vendetta to arrest athletes like some pig fans would like to believe. I try not to harp on this too much, because it could happen to us tomorrow, but it really is amazing the qualilty, character athletes we get at UALR.

Another point. It really seems when you look around the country, the arrests seem to almost always involve men's basketball or football. I don't think its just because they are higher profile and make the news. I really think that because of the big money and pressure to win in those sports (especially at the big time schools) coaches have no choice but to take chances on kids of questionable or known bad character. No way a tennis, golf, swimming, etc. coach takes a kid with character issues.

MJS- I agree with you on all of your statements, but want to add that in addition to what you said, I think that due to the nature of big time college football and basketball, kids start believing (stupidly) that the rules don't apply to them. They are "gifted" people after all, and the fans adore them, so why should they have to follow the rules that apply to everybody else?

They have been treated as demi-gods since junior high. Small wonder that they think that.
