In the nine years the Sun Belt has sponsored football only once has the league been won by a team with more than one league loss. In 2005 ULM, ULL and ASU shared the league title with a 5-2 mark.

Currently ULL, FAU and UNT are virtually eliminated with 3 league losses. It would not be impossible for a 3 loss team to win the league, but it seems highly unlikely that Troy loses three of their remaining five league games. ASU, ULM and WKU are all playing virtual elimination games every week from here on out as they all have 2 league losses. As I pointed out, history is not on their side with 2 losses already, but if any of them were to win out, they could potentially find themselves in the discussion.

Middle Tennessee is still very much in the mix, but obviously need help having already lost to Troy.

Troy and FIU are both currently undefeated and look to be on a collision course to square off in three weeks that will go a long way to decide the league title. Troy should almost definitely enter the all important tilt on 11/13 still undefeated as their next two games are against ULM and UNT. FIU may have a little more trouble having the Shula bowl standing between them and Troy, while the Golden Panthers should be favored and should win, you can never really know in rivalry games.

If Troy and FIU win their next two games, they'll enter that game at 5-0 and 4-0 respectively. At that point a Troy win all but locks up another title for the Trojans as they'd need just one more win to clinch at least a share of the league title and would only have WKU and FAU remaining on the schedule. An FIU win changes things dramatically, obviously it puts FIU in the driver's seat, but it could also put Middle Tennessee right back in the thick of things if the Blue Raiders can knock off the Red Wolves in Jonesboro a week from Tuesday. If MT beats ASU and FIU beats Troy, the league title this year could go down to the final weekend.
Even if FIU beats Troy (and loses one game), MT could at best be co-champs with FIU and Troy. Most likely the winner of the Troy FIU games wins out and is outright conference champs. I think Troy wins it all again. You never know though. It looks to me though that MT will come in tied for second with FIU and a win over FIU and a conference loss to Troy. A loss to FIU puts us in third and hopefully still bowling at 7-5.

The game FIU loses in this scenario would be to MT. If FIU beats Troy and we beat FIU it would be a three way tie.

At this point, I don't think FIU has any better shot at beating Troy than anyone else left on it's schedule. They've got some proving to in my opinion.
I don't care if we lose every single other game as long as we beat FIU...
2-10 baby .... oh god what a terrible season. 03-hissyfit

Go Owls!

The cajuns thought that WKU didn't have a shot at beating them last Saturday. With the way WKU is developing, in my opinion WKU could beat Troy as well.

Let's slow down just a little bit. WE did just win our first game in 27 tries on Saturday. True no one gave us a shot but let's not put the cart before the horse okay? yes we are getting better but how worse could we have been before we start an ascent?
What happens if the conference doesn't have more than one 6-win team (Troy) ?
im as big of an FIU fan as they come but dont put us at 4-0 yet.. i think we will get there but one game at a time.. first we gotta win the Shula Bowl

Ya'll aren't finished winning yet.

It certainly will make me feel a lot better if you add two or three more to your win total.

Than the team that is over the 6 win threshold (assuming that its the conference champion) will go to the New Orleans bowl and GMAC will have an opening for an atlarge team because the New Orleans bowl has the first pick of bowl eligible teams from the sunbelt.

The Conference To Me Seems Still Up For Grabs. Depending On How Some Games Pan Out This Weekend. I Know Troy Is The Clear Favorite Right Now And Middle Tennessee. But The 3rd Spot Could Be Decided By The End Of The Season. But I Think It Could All Depend On The Last Week Of The Season To Determine Who Gets What Bowls. You Have To Factor In Who Beat Who And Where And By How Much. You Never Know What Will Happen.

Not really, because the bowls can "pick-and-choose" which teams they want from the bowl-eligible teams, as long as the champ is accommodated...and the NO Bowl has the 1st pick
