Pass Defense 242.25 yds #97(#12 MAC)
Net Punting 33.93 #95(#10 MAC) #1 was formerly on the Rocket roster.
Punt Returns 3.38 yds #113(#12 MAC)
Ball State had 357 total yards for the game, 79 of it on that last TD drive (lasted 1:18) when that ROTTEN "prevent" defense was called for (I won't say played). The only thing that defense "prevented" was a 2 touchdown victory, and allowed that onside kick situation at the end.

He called that on a Ball St. third and long when the game was tied, only three people on the line resulting in a first down for them. Yeah, I don't get the purpose. It doesn't ever really seem to chew any time off the clock and if you're D is working as is, it's working. I think it must be in a "coaching" manual so eveyone does it. Statistically, perhaps it works and I don't notice it.

The D was playing fine for about 3 quarters of that game... There was no need to play soft and back on our heals for the last minute or so and allow their last score ... 03-banghead
If that rb for Ball State does not fumble, it's a different ball game...
But it's a W, and 4-0 in the MAC... When's the last time UT has experienced that?
Might the passing yards be a function of several, none secondary related, things:

Playing two very good passing teams.

Not giving up many yards on the ground forcing other teams to go to the air

Our quick starts and big early leads force other teams to pass sooner and more often (just seeing if you're paying attention)

Nobody but Temple and NIU have really top quality backs to force the run game against our quality run defense, while there are a number of decent, young passers in this pass first, second and mostly league
i'm not at all worried about that passing game stat. so many of those yards are "garbage time" stats while protecting a lead and against the maddening prevent style defense at the end of games. stats are useless unless you understand the context. our pass coverage will be tested against EMU, but i think we are up to the task and the stats aren't really reflective of the performance on the field.
The punt returning isn't eric pages fault, kickers are kicking high punts for no chance of return. But it seems like Toledo has a panalty on every other kick if its punting or kick off returns
I agree but, worse stat 0-4 league.
