This lil' group deserves it so much !
Per Eyewitness News online:
TUNICA, MS - Harrah's Casino recently announced a donation of $200,000 to the Tunica Humane Society, now Grammy Award winning singer, Rob Thomas, is also stepping in to help give the dogs a home.
Tunica Humane Society executive director, Sandy Williams, was instrumental in starting Tunica County's first humane shelter in August, 2008. Williams says, "We've endured two brutal winters out here. During the winter our lines freeze we have to tote water from another location to provide fresh water... it's hard on the volunteers and hard on the animals."
Williams has set her sights on a $500,000 indoor/outdoor animal sanctuary. She says she wrote to Oprah, Ellen, even Extreme Makeover, but it was Matchbox 20 frontman, Rob Thomas, and his foundation, Sidewalk Angels, that stepped in to help.
Williams says, "They like to help small grassroots charities. They like their money to have a big impact." Williams expected anywhere from $10,000-$20,000 but Williams says the check was for $125,000. She says that puts their dream within reach.
"A simple e-mail, a letter and video and it has changed our life here and we are forever grateful to Rob Thomas." Williams also promises to play his music at the shelter.
Williams is hoping the rest of the money will come from a federal grant.
They are still in need of donations and adoption families, in addition to blankets and dog houses for the winter.
