Well it hasn't started yet but in due time we will start to see rumors flying about who will go where. I have only been following MAC football for 8 years but are there MAC coaches that went directly to high profile AQ programs? Granted both Kelly and Jones left CMU for Cinci, AQ but not quite what I would call high profile. Same for Gill going to KS. I bring this up because you hear about Golden being a candidate for Minny but many of the Temple faithful think he is the heir apparent to Joe Pa at PSU. Any examples of that big of a jump?

For the first time in several years we don't have to worry about our coach being swiped this time!
who on earth thinks AG is the heir apparent at PSU?

Posted here many times.
I'd say, Solich is a shoe-in for Nebraska.........................bar stool.

Guy named Bo something or other left Miami and went to some big Michigan college where he enjoyed modest success. I think another guy or two from Miami went elswhere-only one I can think of ended up going to a small, religious college in Indiana so I don't know if that counts. He stopped in Chicago at another Big Ten school first though so maybe not. Ara somebody?

Can't recall any recent ones though. Saban went back to the NFL before hitting the Big Time at MSU, Meyer had a stop at Utah, Pinkle went to Missouri but they had been down for years.

Grobe went to Wake Forest, but is that any higher profile than Cincy? Same about Hoeppner, who left for IU.

For the record, I'd say Kansas was high profile.

Golden probably is a candidate for Minnesota. They have a long tradition of making mistakes in HC hires.

Certainly didn't work out for Temple.

I've seen it here and owlscoop. Golden to PSU would certainly be one of the biggest jumps I think.

Sounds like Bo is the only one that fits. Parseghian went to NW before ND, NW couldn't have been that high profile in the 50's, were they?

I think AG is in the mix for PSU but honestly I think Joe Pa leaves, they pass up Golden and then Big Al jumps on the first BCS job to come his way.

Living up here I have heard some UM allums say they would love to get him.
a possibility yes... heir apparent ???? Never actually heard anyone say this... maybe I am splitting hairs or heirs here, but Al Golden would certainley leave for the PSU job but to even think he is more then a Top 5 canidate is ludicrous.

The heir apaprent is Tom Bradley... or Jay Paterno.
The likely Choices would be a coach from a major BCS program or Boise...
Greg Schiano would be likely and equal consideration to AG.
Lee Corso went directly from NIU to the USFL's Orlando Renegades.. ya, huge jump i know
From Toledo, Lauterber went to Iowa, Pinkel went to Missouri and Saban eventually got to MSU, Dolphins and Alabama.
From EMU, Ron Cooper went to Louisville. Didn't workout too well.

Uh-huh, a jump DOWN!
not MAC related, but Tressel went from 1-AA to Ohio St....that is a HUGE jump. North Texas just FIRED their coach who had jumped from BIG TIME HS in Texas to D1.

Gerry Faust
Bill Mallory went from Miami to Colorado. Dick Crum went from Miami to North Carolina. Tom Reed went from Miami to North Carolina State. Both Ara Parsegian and Randy Walker went from Miami to Northwestern. Terry Hoeppner went from Miami to Indiana. But I think the two you are looking for would be Woody Hayes went from Miami to Ohio State and Bo Shembechler went from Miami to Michigan.
Dave McClain went from Ball State to Wisconsin.
Gary Darnell went from Western to ...um..um...... forget it! OK, WMU is a coaches grave yard.03-melodramatic
After his success at KSU, Dean Pees went to the NE Patriots. (Ah, I remember that one winning season like it was yesterday...)
