Just another reason for me to cheer against the tide. Sigh it would be awesome if Saban coached at Kent for a little while as a head coach.

I'll tell you what, with Coach Saban, you never know! Catch him in the right mood, they may win by 70!! Maybe we could put together two good halves, and only lose by 45!! (Sound familiar?)04-cheers
Betcha the check from 'Bama has lots of zero's and the end of it. Might rival OSU as one of our biggest paydays.
Imagine, ...... one of Sabin's assistants being the next KSU coach and that is his first game. What a storyline. Imagine .... JN and Sabin already having talks in regards to how to repair the KSU program as they discussed scheduling this game. OK, I am nuts!
"Purdue athletic director Morgan Burke says Kent State is paying $425,000 to get out of a contract for their football teams to play next year."

I would assume we our getting paid at least a million if that is the case. Getting paid $850,000 would only be the same as we would make if we were sticking with Purdue.

It is too bad because Purdue has a history of playing down to MAC competition.
Look for us to make more schedule changes. And, look for our OOC game price to be going up.
Alabama is going to pick up our tab with Purdue in addition to paying us to come down there from what I gather.
Besides playing Bama has more prominence than Purdue and has a story line with Saban being a Kent State grad which will probably be mentioned a few times.
Well, I guess if you're going to be one of the whores as the big boys scramble to tailor-make their schedules for BCS ranking purposes, you may as well go the "John" willing to pay the most.

I heard someone who just published a book interviewed on the radio the other night. The author's subject was the need for a true play-off in FBS football instead of the BCS rankings. He pointed out that the better FBS are playing fewer great OOC games simply to avoid potential losses. Jeeze, they should play only one mid-major or FCS team a year. Kent State could still get at least one big payday game. Heck, look at Ohio State's OOC schedule this year. Only Miami was a decent opponent.
I hope some of you guys can make it to Tuscaloosa. It's a great place to watch a game and tailgate.
This is starting to make more and more sense. In what is projected to be a tough budget year for Kent State - not to mention no one knows what a possible new governor might do to the funding of higher education - Kent goes from making little to no profit from its non-conference football games to nearly a half-million dollar profit.

We weren't going to get much from Kansas State and we have to pay the two home contests we have as well so it's a very, very good move.

What Morgan Burke needs to understand is that anytime a team from the MAC has a chance to bring in $1.2 million and play for that kind of national exposure it is going to do it every time. It's just good business.

I interviewed a job candidate this summer that went to Alabama. She told me the RV's start showing up on campus around Wednesday and stay till Sunday or Monday and that the school actively promotes this as $$ is spent all over campus and town? Is that true.

Always wanted to get to an SEC game just not sure i want my first to be watching my almamater get blasted by 50.

Secretly hoping that Nick gets bored down there and takes Michigan up as his next coaching challenge?
Nah gets bored and tries to pull the ultimate coaching job of all time. Making Kent the next Boise...one can dream one can dream.
First, I'm disappointed this game couldn't have been put together sooner. I just spent the past 2 years in Columbus, MS (1hr away from Tuscaloosa). :tomcat:
And just when I move they decide to go south. 03-banghead

Second, greatest move Kent's made in a long time. We are going to get huge national publicity with Saban playing against his Alma Mater. Guaranteed to be talked about on ESPN for that week, if not making a special report during game-day. Huge props to JN for making this happen. 04-rock

Third, the dreams of bringing Saban back to Kent are just as good as us beating them. But I wouldn't put it past JN to talk coaching replacements with Nick while working on this game. With that, I would hope he would consult other alum for advice (i.e. Holtz, Pinkel) in a replacement for Martin. 05-stirthepot

Finally, is the AD offering free tickets/bus ride/lunch for the first 100 students? lol 04-cheers
Carducci is reporting $1.2 million to KSU, and a $775,000 profit after KSU pays Purdue for backing out:

Kudos not only to JN, but to Tom Kleinlein. My impression is that both guys are pretty good football finance managers. Think you will see more changes to our schedules in 2012 and beyond.
Is this a one and done game or is it a 2 game deal?
