... is that we never seem to field a skilled and experienced team across the field. It's not scheme, or game day coaching, it's not the administration. It's that when ever we have veteran talent in one area we are relying on true freshmen or sophomores to hold down others, and in 2-3 years when they are veterans the first area is back to freshmen and sophomores.
Last year for example we had a great veteran QB throwing to (in large part) freshmen receivers. A few years back we had great safeties and CB's but nothing up front.
This isn't to say that there are not issues with scheme, game day coaching, administration or what ever this weeks scapegoat will be, but until the team has talent and experience in every area on the field we will be a mediocre team that can never reach the next level.

The issue right now is we are in a down period of inexperience nearly across the board. The good news is that in two/three years we'll have that experience at every position. The bad news is that unless Cubit changes his recruiting pattern we'll be right back here in four years.
There is rarely (if ever) a MAC program that's able to sustain talent and experience across the board. The best staffs manage to put it together in cycles. I'm actually kind of excited right now because we appear to have talent, but inexperience across the board-- this might be a great next year or two.

Combine the above problem with the fact that coaches tend to get poached after initial successes, and dynasties are awfully hard to come by in the MAC.

We might be back in the same boat in another four years.. but if we're building up again for another run, then I think that's all you can really ask for in this conference.
I think its possible to overcome some talent shortcomings in certain area's if you coach to the talent you have, not the talent you wish you had... This is what makes coaches like (i hate to say it) Brian Kelly so succesful so quickly, wherever he's been. He seems to be able to take what he has and run with it... Im not so sure that Coach Cubit takes that same tack.... I think i've seen huge strides on the defensive side of the ball with regard to the use of talent... but offensively its like Cubit forces his agenda and offensive schemes down the throats of whoever is there to process it... now we are seeing him doing it again with an un-proven sophmore QB who might be better served with something a little more vanilla that allows him to make plays with his legs and sling it around with a little more freedom... oh well... For all I know (not being in the coaching meetings or at practices) thats what Cubit is "trying" to do....
