Seven of eight games this Saturday will be televised. Six of the broadcasts will originate on the ESPN family of networks and the Akron at Kent State contest will be on SportsTime Ohio.
Road teams accounted for five of the six MAC wins on Saturday, including four road teams with victories in conference play as Ball State, Buffalo, Northern Illinois and Ohio all picked up road wins. Also, Temple earned an impressive 42-35 win at Michie Stadium against Army.
Four more conference games highlight the schedule, including a key matchup as Temple (4-1, 1-0) travels to Northern Illinois (3-2, 1-0) Saturday at Noon ET and the game will be televised as one of the MAC syndicated games of the week. Both Temple and Northern Illinois were selected in the pre-season media poll to win the MAC East and West Divisions respectfully.
Temple (4-1, 1-0 MAC) at Northern Illinois (3-2, 1-0 MAC)
Saturday, October 9, 2010 • Noon ET • DeKalb, Ill. • Brigham Field at Huskie Stadium (24,000) ESPN Plus/ESPN Game Plan • Announcers: Michael Reghi, Doug Graber
Series: Northern Illinois leads 2-1
Notes:
Seven of Temple’s 2010 opponents participated in postseason play the previous year...RB Matt Brown’s four touchdowns at Army last week tied a Michie Stadium record first set by Tony Dorsett, Pittsburgh in 1975...WR Michael Campbell’s two receiving TDs at Army was a career-high and LB Elijah Joseph’s 12 tackles were also a career best. For NIU five starters -- RB Chad Spann, OG Joe Pawlak, TE Jason Schepler, DE Jake Coffman and DE Sean Progar -- and 11 players on NIU’s current depth chart originally came to NIU as walk-ons...NIU ranks first in the MAC in rush offense and 12th in the nation (241.6 ypg)....RB Chad Spann ranks 19th in the nation in rushing (108.4 ypg).
Nick’s Pick: NIU 21 – Temple 20
Comment: Quite possibly a preview of the MAC title game this December in Detroit.
Nick’s Picks had a rough Week #5 going 4-4 and now stand 40- 13 YTD
Nick’s Pick: Ohio 23 – Eastern 17
Actual Score: Ohio 30 – Eastern 17
Comment: Pretty much the way we called it.
Nick’s Pick: Temple 21 – Army 17
Actual Score: Temple 42 – Army 35
Comment: We expected a dog fight and it was one; did not expect the high scoring affair though.
