That, and I also think that he is afraid of losing the Florida pipeline. That's why there is a double standard within the program when it comes to what can be gotten away with. Some players can get away with more than others.
Ok... let's take this with a bit of perspective. These guy's made the situation about themselves for a moment during a game. I would bet these guy's pound on each other during practices when one makes a mistake... players making other players accountable for their decision making on the field (in terms of assignments etc)... Now it leaks out in the game... disgraceful.... certainly... however I have to think this comes from a competitive spark from some kid's who might just be sick of losing...

Its not like either one of them was arrested for fighting at a party, or drunk driving... or failing out of school... they got pumped up during a game and it overflowed in a very un-flattering way... Taking the game away from them for ANY amount of time is going to have an effect... they live for the game... they sacrifice so much every week to be prepared for the game... so a one week suspension is in my mind... a definite sign of force by Coach... You don't want to lose the players, especially if they understand what they did... and they make ammends... especially if they have added value to your TEAM. Keeping them wondering all week if they may EVER be back on the team... is also a sign from Coach that this is serious... and again... these are Kid's... seriously... sometimes they need to make some mistakes to learn the consequences. This also looks good in front of the rest of the team... that team comes first.

Who knows... this situation could pull this team together, and maybe they will surprise us saturday. I hope for a win for normal reasons... but also to show both Wiggins and Smith that they aren't as "un-replaceable" as they may have thought of themselves.
I don't have problem with one-game suspension.

On-field fight is unacceptable, disgraceful, fill in your own adjective - but it's not an "off with their heads" moment as a first offense.

More concerned it may be symptom of deeper problems in program.

Winning cures everything. Beat Testicle Tech and we'll be singing Cubit's praises and talking about bowl possibilities.

I maybe misreading the situation but I don't believe Beauregard will fire him this year even if we go 2-10 (beat only Eastern rest of way) unless there is a complete competitive, behavioral, and-or academic breakkdown in program.
I don't think that you will find a "double standard" in coach Cubits program. He does not think that way.

Always proud to be a Bronco.
Quote:Wiggins and Smith came to blows near the Idaho sideline at about the 40-yard line late in the first quarter Saturday as a disagreement over how a play should have been covered escalated in stunning fashion.

Cubit said he spoke to both players separately Monday afternoon after deciding to begin with at least a week’s suspension. Cubit said he didn’t want to make an “impulse” decision Sunday.

“They were very understanding (of the suspension),” Cubit said of Wiggins and Smith. “They owned up to it. They said they were wrong. They apologized — to the program, to their families, to the fans. They admitted everything. It was a good meeting.

“I saw today something that I was happy I saw — a lot of remorse.”

Minus Wiggins and Smith, the Broncos will start two true freshmen, safety Demetrius Pettway and cornerback Raheam Buxton. Both players filled in Saturday for the final three quarters.

“We’ve all got to put it out of our mind, because worrying about (the situation with Wiggins and Smith) right now, for this game, it doesn’t do anybody any good,” Cubit said.
Ok, I'm over the anger. I read a lot into those two fighting, but now I like how it's being handled.

THAT still was a first, I'll be talking about that for years. I was talking with someone who was watching at the same time as I, we both said, "they're fighting, wtf?!" at the same time.

Shocker.
This is almost as entertaining as the two cracked up defensive backs who tore the head off a swan one night at the Goldsworthy pond when they were really stoned.

Have you ever had anything good to say Foreverfaithful George?

EJ Biggers and Louis Delmas say hi.

But who wants players that go on to the NFL? We should shut down the Miami pipeline and make sure we never let another partial qualifier like Greg Jennings in. We can be the Vanderbilt of the MAC. Without, you know, the reputation of actually being a superior academic school.
The coach at NMB doesnt want his players to get special treatment, he wants them to become productive members of society. Cubit's done pretty well in that regard. Nobody in Florida will give a rats azz about what happened in this game. Hell, nobody outside of the 15 diehards on this board will care.

I like this post. Some people are making way too big a deal of this.
Bear in mind they also sat for most of the Idaho game. So if they don't play next week that is already a 2 week suspension more or less.

Plus which the replacements get the two weeks of experience. Wiggins and Smith will have to fight to get their spots back. Wait a minute. "Fight to get their spots back", that doesn't sound quite right. How about "will need to earn back their starter status."

There's a lot of fight in this team, they just don't quit, by George, they FIGHT until the end, you have to KICK THEM OFF THE FIELD they fight so hard.
Good one, DB. 03-lmfao

Perhaps all that is needed is just to "re-direct" their fighting more towards the opposing team. Nothing illegal, mind you.
Their replacements were as good, if not better. Wiggins has looked so slow out there.
