What is the status of DeMarcus Grady at this point? I was a little surprised he did not come off the bench before Lynch. I would think he could use some work to build his confidence as he may be needed later in the season should Harnish (perish the thought) suffer his yearly injury.
His status is he's not good enough. He was given more than a fair chance to keep the quarterback job. He couldn't get it done.

You're absolutely right. How does someone go from starter for the season opener because he supposedly gave us our best chance to win to being third on the depth chart by game two. It begs the question, why wasn't another QB given a chance in the Iowa State game?
We have a stubborn coach who can't judge personnel, that's how. Same way that our all-MAC running back was a back up for more than a year and a half to a third down back.
Grady is #3 (depth chart and in uniform) and is exploring oppurtunities elsewhere one would think.

The age old questions from the Iowa State game come up again. From what I have heard and read from many, Grady earned the start in practice. Harnish was not going to play in opener....hurt, not ready, whatever. (Lynch was warming up) Simply put, Grady failed to carryover practice to field. Harnish was ready to go week to and was an easy choice given what happen the week before. Likely belief was to bring Lynch along slowly, and not throw him to the dogs in game 1 in a comeback situation.

People have read into this way, way too much. In the long run for this year it appears to have worked out, and may for years to come.

And at 3-2, Iowa State I would say is a little better than people thought, since what I read they were picked to win no more than 3 games(still might with that schedule) all year.

how does the grady situation show Kill as stubborn? Grady won the opening day start (whether it was practice/injruy/whatever)...he was terrible, and then replaced. How is that stubborn?

It's fine to say it was a mistake to start Grady, but the coaching staff seems to have seen the error and fixed it.
If nothing else Grady does bring speed. It's a shame we can't get him on the field somehow. If he truely is pursuing other options, we need to step up and recruit at least one other QB in this class other than McIntosh.
I tread lightly here because I HATE to give advice to current student athletes. But here is my two cents:

Grady has the skills to be a Division 1 football player. Perhaps those skills are not at the QB position.

But just imagine the schemes that a school would have to defend against if Harnish is behind center, and Grady is lined up outside on a regular basis. They would have to have defensive plans for a QB run, and QB throw, and a QB throw the the WR who then could throw it downfield. Not too many schools have those options.

Sounds like a plan.
He wasn't replaced mid game when it was clear he was the reason we were going to lose that game.

He had no business being out there in the second half. He clearly didn't have it.
I can see that argument, but saying stubborn because of one half seems a little picky, especially when the team had been practicing with him for weeks.

That rarely works for more than a play or two per season. He should have been a safety two years ago, but he would have transferred. So, we let him fiddle around at QB in hopes his performance would catch up with his ability.
They had been practicing with Harnish for weeks too. It's not like he wasn't getting any reps or didn't know the offense.
With his speed I would think he would be a WR if he has can catch the ball. Run a little bit of option too.
I think Grady came to NIU because we promised him a shot a QB. Anyone remember what position Big 10 teams were recruiting him at? I think it was DB, but can't remember.
Do some people on here really think Harnish was the number three QB on the depth chart game 1 soley based on Jerry Kill's evaluation, or lack of, of talent?

Then, after the first game, Harnish somehow, by doing nothing, combined with Grady's failure, once again becomes number one.

All the meanwhile, Lynch stays #2, without throwing a pass, stays in the same position.

This seems like a conspiracy theory. I don't know what connections people have to the program or ability to read Kill's mind, but to think Harnish was #3 (again, I say this because Lynch warmed up against ISU, not Harnish) then #1 a week later is not logical. To say he is stubborn and can't evaluate talent are great, and maybe true (add in not a great game coach) but to me hold no water in this case.

Perhaps I am way off with my analysis, but I would just like some logical explanation or proof other than speculation on what Kill was thinking.
Harnish was the number 3 QB vs. ISU?

I thought saw Lynch warming up on tv, with a helmut on. Someone in attendance said the same. I did not see Harnish warming up, but again I was not there so perhaps I missed it. To me, that says Lynch was 2, Harnish 3.

Can anyone who was there confirm?
Was Harnish actually healthy for the Iowa State game?

Kill recently commented Harnish missed spring ball, was rusty and lacked timing for ISU opener.
