That must have been awesome. Always wanted to do that.
I ran across this thread and thought it would good to link it here. It refers to a couple of comments later addressed in posts 31 and 32 of the current thread.

NIU football stadium pictures from 1965 available on eBay. HUSKIE Stadium became the name in 1974. There was even a UNI problem back in 1965.

We Finished the Fight! And at the end of the day that's what it's all about.02-13-banana
I saw this on twitter and thought it was a great pic bringing most of the mascots together.

When I get some time at my laptop I will just post the image.

Funny. The one on the left was always so weird, especially when it ran.
The Huskies won at Alabama 19-16 on September 20, 2003. Here is a thread with some great reflections by fans 10 years on. I didn't want the thread to get lost.

NIU football helmets through the years.

Thanks to NIU1984 for finding this (from a June 2012 thread).

I still like the current helmet the most.
I also like the current helmet.
Former NIU basketball coach Tom Jorgensen passed away on 11/29/2013.

Huskie fans are one day away from the 2013 MACC vs. BGSU, so I didn't want this to get lost while it was fresh in my mind.

I was wondering why Jorgy resigned after 21-4 and 17-8 seasons at about age 40. I found an article with the quote, "I've lost my enthusiasm for coaching and want to go into business."
http://news.google.com/newspapers?nid=12...92,3222945

Perhaps he was frustrated since the Huskies did not get NCAA/NIT bids in either year.

Here is more on Jorgy:

Does anyone have the video they used to play before home games? The old historical highlights mixed in with modern ones with the Pirates music playing in the background? It just vanished.
NIU To the Big 12 Conference Facebook page created a notes section for fans. Though NIU hasn't joined the Big 12 yet, I think it's a good idea to have a post up here for archive purposes, just in case we ever do join.

I was reading old articles to learn Huskie football history. NIU, with a dull brand back then losing to the likes of Pacific and Western Illinois 17-0, lined up Oklahoma State (94), Louisville (95) and Ole Miss (96) to come to DeKalb for home-and-homes, respectively. Obviously, that Ole Miss game was never played. I assume they bought out?

I wonder how Gerald O'Dell (or whoever was AD then) pulled it off.
Korcek's Corner: The best NIU foes that have visited Huskie Stadium from 8/23/2014

Fifty memorable years.

What Baby Boomer Northern Illinois University football fan – in Yogi Berra parlance – “woulda thunk it.”

Next week, NIU begins its 50th football campaign at venerable Huskie Stadium. The Presbyterian season-opener marks the 257th game played on west campus since Northern Illinois “baptized” the facility with a 48-6 triumph over Illinois State during Homecoming Nov. 6, 1965.

Go ahead, say it. It’s been a heckuva half century. In the duration, the Cardinal and Black have posted a 157-97-2 record and a .617 winning percentage in the fabled “House That (George) Bork Built” – including a stellar 44-11 mark (.800 pct.) the past decade, not to mention the nation’s longest home stadium victory streak (26 games).
