Want to be an FBS program. Looking at the conferences C-USA and the MAC are the only 2 possible conferences. I know it would be a ways to play them but look at the football program we take in. No offense to the others but they have won National Championships at 1-AA level. They also are FBS ready now not years from now.

I think the sun belt is also a possibility for them. If they want to come that owuld be great just **NOT** football only..
The Sun Belt is the best overall fit for all their athletics and the university culture.

Freshman Admissions, Fall 2009

* 3.92 GPA average

Seems much closer to the MAC than the Sun belt, academically.

I could see their enrollment holding them back(16,968 total). Geographically, they belong in the Sun belt/C-USA.
I've been down there....it's a beautiful area and a great campus. Would love to head down there for a football game or two.

I believe Appy wants to move up but is there any article or blog or something which caused you to start this thread?

Something new????
Sun Belt would make sense for them. MAC would perhaps look at football only to balance the football divisions

Nice attendance numbers.
They are doing a feasibility study like GSU, UMass, and Jax St have done. Incorrect title as it's not a done deal just because a school studies.

If they do, their atheltics budget just recently increased over the $10 Mil. mark, so in that sense they fit better in the SBC. They have the great football attendance but their overall atheltic department ticket revenues havent been much better than MAC programs'. About 50% of their AD budget is from student fees, so they'll be looking at how they can find more revenue sources.

Appy State is only #9 Regional University (South) in the USNWR.

They fit in as stated above with SBC academics which are at the regional level and not Tier I/Tier II like the MAC.

The MAC should look at Tier I candidates only.
They should do quite well in the sunbelt
In 1776 we formed a nation.

I think in 2014 (or 15 or 16 at the latest) a bunch of East Coast FCS schools will form a conference.

I think they are sending 'signals' to the other schools - time to start serious planning.

I would not be surprised to see a few go I-A independent in say '13 as a prelude to a new conference forming.
