USA hosts Nicholls State. USA steps it up a notch with their first FCS opponent. Attendance should be good and I look for USA to have a convincing win over Nicholls.:odie:

You and that Odie! This game will tell us a lot where USA is as a program.
Go USA! Cant wait to see them in the Sun Belt in a few years.
Go Jags!
Go Jags . . . Go SBC !!! 02-13-banana
Very interesting game. I'd say USA folks are "cautiously optimistic" about this one. We've played 1 D-III school, but no D-II schools (though we'll play some later this year), so we don't really know what to expect against an FCS team. Makes a man nervous.

With good reason, I've said several times that I believe that USA's undefeated regime ends no later than this season in California, but possibly as early as this weekend. If USA can win convincingly, I'll be impressed and perhaps change my tune when it comes to the UC-Davis game as well.

Nicholls State is weak this year. New coach. New offense.:odie:

USA 35 Nicholls State 21

I think my official prediction on the USA board was USA 35-17. Pretty close!
Tell me why USA has been playing DII and DIII so far? Now they play Nichols State. Not being critical of USA, but Lamar University's first game was on the road at McNeese State. They were ranked 11th in FCS at the beginning of the season. Lamar came really close to beating them. Pretty impressive for a school that has been without football for 20 years.

Seems like USA would be playing more D1AA teams this year.

The reason is that Lamar is on track to be FCS, which means they will be a full member of that division next season and needed work on a faster timeline. Since USA is going FBS and the current moratorium won't allow the Jags to be full members until 2013, they had a couple of seasons to play with and chose to spend them building slowly. In my opinion it is the right way to go as all the blowout wins have been helping to build the fanbase, unlike what losses to teams that they were not prepared to face would have done. This year the step up was from JCs, prep schools and one D3 school to a few of NAIAs, D2s and two FCS programs. Next year it will be mostly FCS teams plus Kent State and NC State.
My prediction is that South will win by two scores.

Go South . . . Go SBC !!! 02-13-banana
