step down. "It's time for him to go".
he also called Coach Brown an an offensive genius.
What is CWB getting paid a year?
How many more fights do the Miami Maulers need to get in before Coker becomes affordable to us?

I think 300-350k.
I say we try to 'pony up' the money to try to get someone who is 'relatively young' and somewhat proven, like Paul "Butch" Davis (55 years old) or David Cutcliffe (52 years old), who could stay with the football program long enough to make winning a tradition rather than a rarity. Butch Davis did well with Miami and is currently working in broadcasting, but I have little doubt that he would love to have the chance to become a legend for an up-and-coming program rather than trying to follow one in an established program. The exact same could be said for David Cutcliffe.

Personally, I would love to see Pat Sullivan stay and take the job, but the football program may be in such a down state at the moment that an infusion of completlely new blood may be the best thing for UAB.

If we can afford to do it in basketball with Mike Anderson and now Mike Davis, why can't we at least try to do it for football which would be more lucrative than basketball in terms of TV revenue. Now, I know Mike Anderson was not expensive and was unproven until he got here, but Mike Davis was just the opposite and we DID get him.

We have to try and try hard to succeed because we are surrounded by programs that would love to see us fail. We are much like Israel in the Middle East; we are both surrounded by our enemies and MUST succeed in order to survive.

Just a thought.
:soapbox:
dont forget, if a change is warranted at the end of the season, I agree serious consideration should be given to Birmingham native David Cutcliffe, as the person above noted

However, I am more worried and focused on us beating Marshall a the moment.

go blazers, trample the herd
I've been opposed to Cutcliffe, but if thats the best we can do then oh well. Does Archie have another kid on the way?

Why would we replace Watson with another proven loser as a head coach. What did Cutcliffe ever do at Ole Miss when he didn't have Eli at quarterback.

Cutcliffe - no.
Yep, couldn't possible want this guy ... if UAB has an opening.

You are stupid, right? Coker has taken a program that was the best in the nation and run it intot he ground. He's gone steadily downhill ever since he won the NC with Davis' recruits. I wouldn't let Coker clean our toilets. Not to mention what his team did 2 nights ago. Do you want players like that on the Southside? I think not.
I feel better contributing to a coaching thread without he who must not be named in the title. With that said. My thoughs...

UAB's Recipe for Success!

4 Cups National Search (Division I level only, thank you.)
2 Cups Experience in a Winning Program
4 Tablespoons Defensive Mindset (can you say snatch someones D-Coord.? I thought you could)
1 Pinch Personality

Mix in bowl and bake at 350 degrees until Spring Practice.

Once finished, cover with foil and let stand for 10 minutes.

Slice and serve with GREEN longleaf parsley as garnish.

Recommended accompaniments: Fava Beans and a nice Chianti.

If Cutcliffe isn't the answer, then why doesn't anyone respond to my post about Butch Davis? He did very well in college. He was much less successful in the NFL which is why he would probably strongly consider coaching in college again. Also, I think the opportunity to be forever remembered as the man who made UAB a national name (for positive reasons) might be enough for him to take the job ... provided there is sufficient monetary compensation included.
I really think he could do very well here. Is he currently doing anything in the coaching ranks? I belief he's currently working in the TV media world doing football anlysis from what I remember reading somewhere. Hasn't Dave Wannstedt done well by leaving the NFL coaching ranks after being unsuccessful and return to college to get Pitt on the right path to where they're formidable in the Big East? I know Pitt has more money to throw around than we do, but they were not 'Notre Dame' either.
Finally, didn't a basketball coach by the name of Gene Bartow take a fledgling program by the name of UAB and become a legend in the region and sustain national prominence for that program his entire tenure? Stranger things have happened here before! Think about it.

I'm not sure I wanna eat UAB's new coach...

And I don't want Cutcliff, let me make that clear, I don't want Cutcliff. I DO want a change.

Butch Davis looks good to me, but can we get him? Really now...
Rumor is Butch Davis may be back in Coral Gables in a few months. Don't think we could get him. There are other schools out there with bigger pocketbooks that would snatch him up.

I like Cutcliffe, but I would prefer a defensive minded Coach.

Ty Nix D-Con at S. Carolina

Bud Foster D-Con at Va. Tech

Gene Chizik D-Con at Texas

Are my 1st three interviews if I am hired as AD.
Once we decide we are going to get a NEW coach (rather than recycle an old coach promoted to HC), we need to think like we did in replacing BBHCMA and go for an "impact" name like we got with BBHCMD. Even if the hire is unsuccessful down the road, we will still have had the benefit of the national talk when we hired him. Butch Davis would be such a hire. There are others who would fill that bill as well.
Keep in mind that the coaching "carousel" keeps turning every year, and a name that is unavailable one year may be right up front the next. If Watson Brown should say "no" to the AD job (say he goes 4-1 for the rest of '06), it will be filled this winter, and that person might just be ready after next season to hire a new FBHC from the talent available in the fall/winter of 2007. All of this will be moot of course if FBHCWB becomes ADWB and makes FBACPS into FBHCPS. If PS is moved up to FBHC, he would have to be given a few years to make the team his own, so the issue will essentially be tabled for the rest of this decade.
