than I did before this weekend. I know they'll air it out and probably run up a boatload of points, but I felt they looked very ordinary against a very ordinary Texas Tech team. Maybe it's wishful thinking, but I don't feel nearly as worried as I did before watching them Sunday.

Now, I'll probably have to eat my words.
I am very worried about this game. While our front four have improved, our secondary got burned too many times against FAU.

One CB got burned against FAU...twice. And the 2nd time it was a perfect pass and awesome catch.

And the fact that that CB will be starting for us Saturday, or the fact that he never even turned around and tried to find the ball on either TD makes no difference?
Give me Ballou and Coleman at corner. Please.

That is all.
I have no idea how this game will turn out. We were out manned by a much bigger and faster TTU Sunday. And TTU has more depth. With the exception of TCU, SMU will not see another team with the overall level of athletes TTU has.

We were much better against the run than we have been in years past. We have a long way to go in pass defense. Our offense stunk the first half and multiple turnovers just put us in a hole we couldn’t dig out of.

We also have a short week to prepare. Don't know if that will be good or bad overall.

June Jones believes UAB, with UCF and UH has the best talent in the conference.

We will be at home which helps us. I think overall, if SMU executes, that ASMU is better than last year. The defense should be improved as should the offense. Special teams are always a mystery but so far they have performed well.

Oh, it makes a difference, but it's not as bad as saying our entire secondary got burned. We had a good number of coverage sacks/pressures last week...maybe more than we had all of last year combined.
Any QB needs to have TIME to throw long. I don't think the FAU QB threw long except when he had little pressure up front. THAT is the key to good pass defense. ANY QB with enough time to look can find a receiver at our level of competition. When he was forced to move around, his game suffered substantially. The key against SMU will be that level of D-Line pressure, perhaps supplemented with planned blitz packages.
Wish I could say that...Please correct me if I'm wrong, UAB's had SMU corralled twice in their two previous meetings, only to let them escape with a win in the closing minutes/seconds, one time it was on something reminiscent of what took place between East Carolina & Tulsa..."Close" only counts in horseshoes and hand grenades, & based on what I've seen so far even though both teams lost their season openers, I'm inclined to think that SMU is going to come out the more-learned team from their defeat than will UAB, it all comes down to coaching, and SMU has far greater traits in this regard. Your backs to the wall after only game...Like it or not, that's UAB's situation this weekend, redemption or regurgitation.
SMU may have looked "ordinary" but UAB looked less than ordinary.

Also, Burdette and Bender each blew their assignments or "got burned" on that wheel route.

I don't think SMU looked ordinary at all. UAB looked juco.

well??? 05-stirthepot
I see Padron being much improved over last week. That was the worst game he has played. It was a tough environment on the road. With the loss of Sanders and McNeal, SMU is going to have to make sure the other receivers can step up. W/out any stupid turnovers like last week, SMU wins by 10 at least.

You're right.
When we're flat as a pancake this weekend we can take comfort in knowing that it was an "ordinary" steamroller that ran over us.
That's good fellow blazers give up on our team before we have played two games. I don't know about you but I am going to be optimistic about the blazers till the day I die! Go beat the he'll out of the mustangs this weekend blazers!!
I would be scared of playing any D1 school right now and even some D2 schools with the way UAB's defense has played the past few years
i predict we lose, but i dont think we'll get blown out...a lot depends on how much pressure we get up front (i know, big news flash)
Are y'all talking about the loss to this guy?
