[attachment=3048]My female German Sheperd has been missing for two weeks. We have put an add in the local paper, all the local humane shelter, and put posters where we could. I believe someone stole her and is keeping her. Any suggestions on how to recover her? By the way we live in Forrest City, AR.
That's horrible, I am so sorry. Sounds like you have done everything right in looking for her. Try craigslist. Hope you find her, good luck.
I assume you have offered a reward? Also, enlisting the aid of children and teenagers in your neighborhood to provide info on anyone they might know who may have stolen her or found her, or if they see her, might prove fruitful. Please alert local law enforcement to see if they know of other missing animals in your area.

Put posters in all vets' offices, and check with whatever agency is responsible for picking up dead animals.

Good luck. I will keep her in my prayers. My family has had sheperds.
Several years ago when I came home to a backyard gate wide open and both of my Dobies gone....I immediately called every vet in the area, the humane society, the animal shelter, put up big signs in the neighborhood and then went to kinko's and got fliers made to put up all over town. I drove around about a 5 mile radius every single day for days (found my male, Kyzer, at day 6 and my female, Kassie, on day 9) When I was out driving around I would stop and ask kids out playing and joggers and anyone that would be outside each day and might have seen them. My vet advised me that alot of pure-bred dogs are stolen and taken to:

good luck !!!!

Most of the pets are sold in the back area of the flea market, hunting dogs mostly. That place is an animal lovers nightmare.
Thanks, everyone for the suggestions. I had not considered flea markets. I will stop when I see one.
Very sorry to hear of your missing pups. I would reiterate two ideas:

1. If you have not already, and are able, offer a reward. It is a sad reality people will steal dogs in hopes of collecting reward money. It is an escalating problem out where I am, especially with pure-bred and larger dogs. If the thieves cannot make money off a reward, they know they can sell the dog fairly easily. While unlikely, there is an off-chance someone will advertise your dog for sale in the paper (I know of a recent instance of that happening out here, that is how the dog was found), so check you may want to check there.

2. Ask the neighborhood kids if they saw anyone "unusual" in the area. Usually, dog thieves will spend a some time checking out an area to determine which dogs they would want, and which are the easiest to steal.

Best of luck in your search, and I hope you will be reunited with your beautiful Shepard girl very, very soon.

Actually that's a great idea. I have heard of people finding their dogs that way. Man, that is heartbreaking. I think I am gonna have mine implanted with a GPS chip.
Here is another option you can try. Sounds interesting and promising.

I've got one of those. Can't say I like it.
We have a reward offer on the posters, but not an amount. Do you think $300 would be be enough?

I would sure hope so. It should be enough where, if someone did steal her, you'd have a good chance at getting a response. Thinking more positively, while you may be willing to pay such a reward, if someone does honestly just find her, they may well not feel comfortable accepting such a large amount. You could always look around and see how much adult, non-papered, "guard" breeds are going for in your area and use that as a guideline.
Again, best of luck!!!
I am so sorry to hear that your baby is missing. I agreed with all the above suggestions especially checking out craigslist. I read a thread on Dogster of how people are doing just this very thing, saying they are moving and can't take their dog with them and are asking for a rehoming fee to assure a good home. They are just actually taking a pet and selling it !!! This Dogster thread suggested that you look at the "craigslist" listings in all the major cities in your area. I can only think of also making a police report so they are aware of any patterns in your area and so if you come across who ever has your pup, you will have proof that you made the report. I will pray for y'all.
