Full Version: Thoughts of a Senior UAB Student

Being my final year as a student, I feel compelled to voice my opinion on the upcoming season.

For three seasons, I have sat (stood) in the barren stands of Legion Field and have heartily cheered on the school I attend and desperately hope will reach excellence in my favorite of all college sports.

For three long seasons, I have, as you all have, endured countless disappointments and enjoyed a few recent achievements.

Some believe UAB is a lost cause, some believe we don't deserve consideration for our long desired stadium. But I believe differently.

I believe Defenses do not win championships, Teams win championships.

I believe a fan base entirely devoted to the success of the program is a vital part of that Team.

I believe every minute of every day, UAB can get better, can grow stronger, and can take another step toward greatness.

The minute we allow ourselves, and our Team, to think it is as good as it can be, no matter the circumstance, is the moment we fail.

Tomorrow night we take the first step toward our destiny, I hope you bring every lost soul you can, because tomorrow night we show Birmingham it doesn't need a Dome, it doesn't need an NFL team, Birmingham's team is already in Southside.

Go Blazers!
OUTSTANDING POST!
Here Here!! 04-cheers
Hey man, I am glad to hear there are students like you still thinking that way! Go Blazers!
G...im glad for your passion. a word of warning...i know NUMEROUS people that spent 4 years at uab (some 8) with a similar passion, and after graduation, the passion faded, and now they acknowledge uab athletics about as much as everybody else in bham...DONT LET IT BE YOU. we'll need you to turn from a passionate student to a passionate alumnus

You had me until you said that part about the NFL team...Really though, I embraced 99% of what you said as it relates to UAB football, I will support them thru good times (as rare as they've been) and vent like he** (but still root for them) thru the dark ages, but I love me some NFL, now!

This town should have had a team in place long before now and long before any of these other southern cities (Charlotte, Jacksonville, Nashville) but our city and its' leaders have all but destroyed any chance of that ever happening, we/they never finish anything meaningful that it starts, ie "dome", streetcars/transit, etc., meanwhile, UAB sports is the only game in town, it's all we got, and I'll root for them...You got "moxie", young man(or lady?)...Hope you get that dream season that we've all been dying to see right here - right now! UTD!
I hope Charlie Brown has this post in his back pocket.
Good post!
Great post! I graduated in 1989. Still feel the same way you do!
