I'm not on campus or even in Michigan so my knowledge is what I read, surmise, etc. I haven't seen a practice, etc.

I'm trying NOT to read the presser from Febraury.

I'm trying to bring together posts, e-mails, newspaper articles, etc. etc.

I guess I could wait for the 2-deeps to come out next week but...

1). Lattarious Thomas S - all MAC caliber, impact safety.

4). Jay Karutz - P - posts suggest he is the real deal.

5). Chaz Mitchell - RB - Believe we have some RBs not able to play or 100%. Mitchell may be forced to play early.

6). Darius Moffett - LB - LB needs to be upgraded. Maybe this should be Moffett/Weingrad.

8). JUCO DTs - Hard to keep up with JUCOs DT being added and deleted to the roster - apparently because of academic/clearinghouse issues - but one or two have to contribute. Assume it will be Westerman or Grimes or both. Is McCoy not eligible?

9). Scott - WR - is he a sleeper? Maybe he should be moved up. I believe the JUCO WR, Reynolds, is an academic casuality. Is Shelby a redshirt candidate?

10). Payne - QB - Backup QB but should see a fair amount of PT.

Feel free to re-arrange, add, modify or even delete a player if I'm off course.

I think these 10 are better then a list of 10 from last year. 04-cheers
Scott has definitely shown flashes of brilliance!
He could use some work hanging on to the ball, BUT he's a freshman...
I heard his triple jump numbers in high school would have won the MAC last year.
Let's you know he is an AMAZING athlete.
You can see it just in watching him run routes.
Fun to watch!
Should I move Scott up?

Who do I move down?
I'm not sure I'm following your list correctly...
Did you skip 2 and 3 for a reason?

Yes, I don't know whom to put there.

May need to move the whole list up.

I don't have any CBs or OL.

I assume the OLs will redhsirt.

I haven't heard anything about CB candidates...
From the interviews I've heard and articles I've read, Coach English seems to be pretty high on Kelip Goodwin. I'm not sure if he'll play CB or S, but it'll be interesting to see how he pans out.
KPJ,

This article seems to be in terms of content maybe 4 - 6 weeks old (note presence of Axon), but is nevertheless informative.

Might be the best single EMU FB article I could find.

Gotta have a kicker on this list. Anyone know who the starting kicker even is?

Based on this and KPJ's comment, I could add Goodwin and make the newcomer LBs (more then one) ranked in say the top 5.

If I read this correctly, might be a very good talent infusion at LB this year.

(one can see some new DTs, LBs, Thomas, Goodwin and new defensive coaches and surmise that the potential for a BIG improvement in the defense is very possible).

The defense might go from the 'outhouse to the penthouse' - could be the BIG story of EMU FB for '10.

Maybe a lot of MAC fans will be shocked...

I hear Graham from Florida may be what we need.

I think one of the biggest defensive changes is the return of Ohrman to DE. In one year he's gone from an undersized DT to a big DE. Played well at DE in 2008.
Good Observation on Ohrmann, he put a lot of pressure on QB's in 2008.
Yes this list would have to be better than last year since about 6 of the "impact" players from last year never played a down for EMU.
In order to be an impact player this year I would assume the player would have to be a starter. I am awaiting the depth chart for the first game so I can compare it with last year's EMU opening day starters.

Thomas I would agree with- should be an impact player. The kicker and punter will have an impact good or bad by default. The real question is the punter better than Zach Johnson or the kicker more reliable and better than Carithers was. I don't see any true freshmen making an impact. Will Scott be on the first set of receivers out on the field when you have Thomas, Burke and Hunter? 50% of the defensive line recruits appear not to be the roster so you are depending on Westerman and Grimes to be the biggest improvement factors personnel wise.
The LBs I would to see the announced depth chart before commenting.
This will probably be my last post on this subject before English's luncheon tomorrow and the 2-deeps coming out.

my take might be a little different then EMU79's:

Thomas needs to be an impact player, near All-MAC caliber.

Goodwin could be a nickle back, not possible to start at safety because of who we have starting back there.

Scott needs to make the 2-deeps at WR. Thomas and LeDuc tough to beat out.

I'd like to see one new JUCO DT start and at least one other in the 2-deep.

I'd like to see at least one new starting LB and a total of 2 or 3 in the 2-deeps.

I'd like to see the P be in the top 1/2 of the MAC.

I'd be happy to see a lot of frosh OLs redshirt. I'd consider that a +.

That kind of thing.

2-deeps are important in football. Depth is a huge problem when MAC schools play much better competition.
Okay, I've (and others) have given their 'top 10' newcomers.

KPJ:

Do you have English's 'top newcomers' from today's luncheon?????

Do you have names to name?
I would move Scott up the list...
I've heard good things about Weingrad.
I have heard RAVE REVIEWS about the punter.

I think there will also be room for some surprises on Saturday.
Be sure to be there Saturday!!!!!!!!!!
I'll be there! Should get there early to get good parking. Seating shouldn't be a problem unless you are handicapped.

Any word on the SITOUTS?

That would be beside Thomas, Moffett, Goodwin, Payne, etc.

I don't distinguish much between as 02/10 signee vs. an 02/09 signee.

He didn't mention many names...
But I can tell you that you can expect to see a slimmer trimmer Dwayne Priest.
Which should pay some nice dividends.
I guess the 2-deeps will tell a LOT. 03-idea

A LOT more then the Aug 14 practice.
