Anyone think Wren's homicide might deter would be recruits? Or do you think it might make the new guys family a little nervous? I hope not, but it came to mind yesterday.
Maybe. Crips-n-Bloods have declared war on all Tigers (and ex) players.

Why? Because someone in Memphis was murdered? If that was the case, there wouldn't even be any students at the school.

No, because he was a Memphis Tiger basketball player just like the newcomers are and potential recruits would be. Wren is a model Memphis player that went from the University to the NBA (just like the newcomers and potential recruits would aspire to do). Pretty common sense to me. If it were my son, and not from here, I'm not sure I would feel too good about it.
Well this doesn't seem like a random incident so I don't think their families should worry.

What a stupid question.

it's a random incident in that it's not every day that a former Memphis player gets shot.

it isn't random in that it seems to have been a planned murder.

I would hope not. I guess I was trying to put myself in the shoes of a parent of a recruit from outside Memphis and wondering how I would feel after hearing the news. Random thought...
i dont think that people go around and intentionally target current and former tigers players... its a lifestyle that u live and who knows what was REALLY going on with Wren... i know that when u get so deep in certain things, it doesnt matter WHO U ARE... same thing could happen in miami, carolina's, california, etc.... its about decision making in the end... i think adults are wise enough to know this and teach their kids these things... its not about the city...

Correct. Ren was targeted for reasons other than being a Memphis basketball player. But he was definitely targeted.

seriously... I mean when someone like Wren is so loved and looked up to in this city and the recruit's parents hear so much from coaches that the city will love and embrace them if they come here, you have to wonder what they are thinking after this. They have to wonder what kind a crowd the players start hanging around and the potential threat it could be to their child. I agree it's all about the kids decision making and who they hang with, but sometimes that doesn't always matter. There are some jealous and malicious folks out there. I know it's not just Memphis. But when you have the Burks incident, Cooper - Williams incident, and now Wren's, it would not be too far out there to think the parents of these recruits would worry.
Must have been listening to Gaston at noon, he kept bringing it up as a subject.... Guy loves to hear himself talk.

Wasn't listening. I thought about it yesterday. I just kinda cringed when it crossed my mind. Ultimately I think we are ok though.
How many 1000's of ball players have played at UM? Pretty safe odds. Only coincidental to Tiger ties.

All of those players that you mentioned put themselves in their positions in one way or another. It had nothing to do with the city or the university.

Gaston has developed quite a history of taking indirect shots at the Tiger basketball program. Wonder why?
In fact, the outpouring of sincere sadness at the loss of one of ours is commendable. Bad stuff happens everywhere; this kind of reaction doesn't.
