Maybe he asked for his own Billboard from Golden and was turned down...

03-nerner
And maybe he wants to play. Good luck to the kid, looks like a quality MAC qb.
Yeah, he would've been 3rd behind Chris Coyer and Connor Reilly anyway. I think our top QB targets for 2011 are Mike Bimonte and Chris Polony.
Nice touch on the ball and quick release, ran pretty well.

Well, they are now.

Obviously, Golden was very high on the kid, or he wouldn't have offered, but maybe you know more than he does.

There is no shame to not signing every kid you really want. No need to try and downgrade him just because he chose another school.

Looked like a very solid recruit. I know there were some schools who got scared away because of his height. Make no mistake about it, Temple wanted him (JHG gets sour grapes when we don't get every recruit we target). I heard he really liked his BG visit and like the pass-happy offense BG has...he did make a comment in the article mentioning that he commited as a safety valve so he wouldn't lose a scholarship if another QB commits...If a bigger school comes along, he may look that way...

It's sour grapes because I said he wasn't our top target? Just because he had an offer doesn't mean he was our top target. Every school offers multiple players each year. Golden did obviously like him enough to offer. So what? We have two better regarded QBs on the team already. We didn't exactly need him. I'd be perfectly content with Mike Bimonte, who is one of the fastest risers in the Northeast right now. Hopefully Rutgers doesn't offer, but they've been all over the kid lately.

I'm not sure anyone even noticed Johnson picked BG, let alone knew who he was. I dont remember anyone posting it on our board. Not to mention he committed in June, so this is pretty old news by now. We wanted his teammate, 4 star RB Jameel Poteat (who committed to Pitt today) more.

I'm not downgrading the kid; he's a good player and all, but no one at Temple is losing any sleep over Matt Johnson picking BG.

I don't think its a "downgrade" either. I admit I have no clue about BG's QB situation, but I know TU has some options, as was stated. I know the fact this kid would probably be behind at least Coyer and Reilly for a while was the first thing that popped into my head also.

The kid looks like a solid MAC QB prospect, congrats to BG.
As of this moment, he would be #6 on the BG's depth chart behind 1 r-So, 2 r-Fr and 2 true Fr. BG like many schools recruits HS QBs because they tend to know the game and are generally some of the best athletes. Who knows where he may play or go at this point but he seems like he has potential.

JHG, We offered this kid a long time ago, well before Mike Bimonte came along. Bimonte did not get an offer til after he attend one of Golden's camps. Johnson was offered before the spring. He was the only QB offered at the time too I believe...that means they wanted him...
JHG, do you honestly believe that a star high school athlete does not believe 100% that he can go to any school and be "the guy"? I don't think the kids feel the way you think they do. It's not like Temple has Manning and Brady on the depth chart! 03-wink
TEMPLE .... the obsession continues.

Chris Coyer has been 'the franchise' for a few years now. Everyone expects him to be a 3 (and possibly 4 if Chester sucks) year starter. Then we have Reilly, who, when he fills out, will be able to compete for the starting job. We should be pretty set at QB. Other than this year, it's probably one of the positions I'm least worried about. As I said, we're not remotely losing sleep over Matt going to BG.
No school gets every single recruit they offer. MAC schools lose recruits to other MAC schools all the time. There is not one MAC school that does not lose any recruits to other MAC schools.

I'll bet your opinion of this Campbell kid would somehow magically change if he would de-commit from BG and become a Temple Owl...

Ok, so his name is Johnson... If I can redirect the same question... Would you change your opinion of the kid if he decommitted to your Owls?
