Interesting observations:
- A 4th QB on the Roster: Austin Karcher (Son of OC Ken Karcher)
- Lavon McCoy listed at 6'4", 390 and.... and on the O-Line
- Julius Shelby looks to be with the squad this year and not a "gray shirt" as was the initial thought (Side note: Shelby played along side the #1 receiver recruit in the Nation last year in Kyle Prater who is now at USC)
- 12 players listed as Red Shirt Freshman
Also see a LB transfer from Indiana - Ian Reeves.

Need somone to figure our which recruits are not on the roster. I notice Cutler but I'm sure there are others. What other players from last year are missing?

Need another kicker and punter.

Karcher played 9 games last year as a QB at Defiance College. That should help with depth but I wouldn't expect him to battle for playing time.
Seems like there is always a lot of interesting stuff going on behind the seens with Jucos...

A quick search on Reeves shows that he sat out the 2009 season of which he was suspended for at least one game. http://indiana.scout.com/2/893328.html
ROSTER APPEARS TO HAVE A LOT MORE DEPTH AND A LOT MORE BEEF THAN PREVIOUS ROSTERS.
I COUNTED 16 REGULAR FRESHMAN

ANYONE DETERMINE WHOSE MISSING FROM HIS FEB RECRUITING CLASS?

I'll take a flyer on Shelby.

He was to be a gray shirt as KPJ indicates.

A few recruits didn't make it, thereby opening up scholarships one of which could go to Shelby.

This is my GUESS.
DIDN'T MAKE IT:

PROPS: THOMAS FROM S CAROLINA AND PARKER OL ILLINOIS

OTHERS:

JUCO DT AND PUNTER
According to my review, Marcus Penn didnt make it, I recall some of us speculated on a news article that he might have academic problems.
Cutler was already mentioned, Malcom Thomas Kinsman's brother not on the roster, and a surprise Garrett Parker an early verbal from last summer and an OL. We have a potential trouble spot at RB with only 4 RBs and one of those a walk on. We have a grinding schedule.

Sorry Dennis we posted three minutes apart.

Parker is interesting.

The kid apparently gained a ton of weight last year and doesn't make it.

Sounds like there is a lot to this story.

Hope things work out for the kid.

Looks a lot different than a Genyk roster with size and depth at OL, DL, and LB.

EMU might have the best group of TE's in the MAC.
Competition at LB will be tough! Lot of upper classmen who played vs a lot of highly touted newcomers (RFR and FR)
You are right....the OL and DL are so much bigger. In regards to the DL, in 07 when Jason Jones was a senior, he played at 265 lb. and Josh Hunt played at about 275 to 280....and they were the 2 biggest DL's on the roster. Palsrok backed both of them up in limited duty as a true Freshmen and played at 255. We just didn't have any depth, and with two talented starters at DT having to play almost every down (and Holtzclaw at MLB), we still couldn't stop the run. I really hope Grimes can come in and contribute, especially since they have moved McCoy to the OL. I would really like to see a solid 4 to 5 DT rotation......

I think linebacker play this year is going to be a real key. I think we have a very good linebacker coach in Morrison and hopefully he can put together a real wrecking crew! He really brings the intensity but can also relate the players. Bottom line, if the LB's are not filling the holes at the line of scrimmage we'll still struggle to stop the run.

On a side note, wonder if they might use McCoy in short yardage/goal line? ....talk about plugging up the middle!
McCoy has to lay off the 'Fries" Hard to see how effective he can be at 390 lbs.

Noticed that a new OL recruit from upstate NY weighs in at 354 - wow - what do they feed these people.?
Just a few quick thoughts:
- Let's not be too quick to assume that some of the freshman who are not on the list won't be with the team.
- McCoy's bio says he can play OL or DL so maybe we'll see him at both.

You feed 'em whatever they want, and keep your fingers back.

I think McCoy as OL may just be a typo. The New York kid played at around 330 in his Senior High School year and dropped 12 pounds in one week of conditioning camp this month, so he's now around 340 or less.

This may sound crazy, but I've seen pictures of McCoy on Facebook and he is a SOLID 3something. I don't think he's really 390. I think the whole 390 thing is all marketing :-)
