I took a litte drive through Arkansas Sunday, on may way up to Branson. I've seen several signs driving and staying overnight in N. Little Rock, with "The Arkansas State's University" message. Have you guys received any negative feedback from other universities in Arkansas for this marketing campaign?
No negative feedback that I know of and it's been pretty effective advertising.

its similar to Ohio State's and Oklahoma States strategy and its been pretty effective

Negative feedback would require the University of Arkansas to acknowledge our existance...

I am a bit confused by the wording.

The Arkansas State? That is kind of awkward isn't it?

Wouldn't Arkansas' State university make more sense? Or would it?

If you aren't familiar with the complete dominance of the college landscape in Arkansas by the UofA system and the arrogance that that university exudes, you won't understand the wording. ASU has done a great job with their PR, and those signs are effective. Hats off to them. Glad to see them taking on Fayetteville.

The signs actually say "The stAte's (think our logo) University.

Like Pappy said. You would have to live here and deal with the hypocrisy that comes out of Fayetvvile every day in order to understand why its an effective PR tool.

Imagine Kentucky refusing to acknowledge the existance of every other Kentucky school, to the point that they would go out of their way to make sure that schools like Louisville and Western Kentucky get no coverage by state media, No respect from state governments and would do whatever possible to make sure that neither ever become anything more then a commuter school.

that happens every day in Arkansas
There actually is an unspoken implication that you are almost somehow a traitor to your state if you do not root for THE university of Arkansas. I actually had a Fayetteville fan admit to me one time that he hoped the other teams in Ark. did not do well because he liked having only one significant program in the state. I suspect that attitude is far more common than many would actually admit.

(I love it!)
Technically it is also The Florida State University. I think it's more common that it seems just because it's not typical usage to include "the" in front of the name of universities, since there is obviously only one Ohio State University or University of Arkansas or whatever.

This is common throughout Louisiana with LSU. People are outraged that some Louisiana citizens do not pull for the purple & gold.

Yes but the difference is in Louisiana everyone in the state fully knows there are other D1 schools then LSU there

In Arkansas there are alot of people who think Arkansas is the only school in the state. Some have never heard of Arkansas State, and some that have believe we are an NAIA D2 or a JUCO school

As of 2007 The University of Arkansas sent out letters to perspective students with a sentence in there that the University of Arkansas offers the states ONLY Division 1 athletic program. (There are 5)

its alot worse here
Fuzzy image of one of the billboards - to clear up the confusion regarding the phrasing . . .
