Since we're stuck at 13. Drop the Championship game and play 9 conference games. (3 non-conference games) Then:

Temple plays either a 5-4 H-A or 4-5 conference schedule

Rest of the MAC:
4-4 H-A schedule
The Ninth Game: (Share all gate receipts equally)
MAC SHOWCASE to open the MAC Season

6 Teams in Cleveland – One game Friday and a Double Header on Saturday
Miami v Toledo, BGSU v Ohio, Buffalo v Akron
6 Teams in Detroit – One game Friday and a Double Header on Saturday
WMU v Kent State, CMU v Ball State, EMU v N Illinois
I would be fine with this if you made it into a rivarly week instead of just random teams playing each other. Best Teams from the year before play in primetime for GOTW.

Cleveland
Kent - Akron
Miami - Ohio
BGSU - Toledo

Detriot
WMU - CMU
Ball St - NIU
Buffalo - EMU/Temp
how will Temple play Notre Dame then in 2013?

I thought you guys would be in the Big East or ACC by then.
Lets hope... but the point being is marquee OOC schedule are being set through 2018 by Temple... Its a good idea but the supplementation may be a bit more difficult... Temple scheduled to play NOVA, PSU, Maryland, and Army. With signed deal to play Notre Dame and Rutgers as these expire...

Your math doesn't work.
You can't have 13 teams play a total of 58.5 conf. games.

I think the showcases would be kinda cool though.

Many schools have the same issue Buffalo is linging up BC, UConn, Pitt, and others and these games are going to have to be in the early part of the season.

A more doable idea might be to implement this MAC Madness week in week 4 or five of the season. But so long as the MAC is stuck at 13 this does not work.

Not sure why people are questioning the logistics of an idea on a message board that will never see the light of day. It is like looking for the logic in one of Airport KCs numerous posts on conference realignment.

We have Vanderbilt on the schedule as well.

I don't follow. It's 8 conference games at campus sites, plus 1 neutral site game. Temple however plays all 9 on a campus site.

I thought about that, but I think the rivalry teams relish and would want to keep the home and home series' going.
NIU would prefer to not have any further home games taken away and moved to Ohio/Michigan. Thanks but no thanks.

The math: If 13 teams each play 9 conference games - that's 13 x 9 = 117 times MAC teams suit up to play conference opponents. Since 2 teams play at a time - that's 58.5 games (117/2 = 58.5).
I like the idea, but would probably limit the showcase to 10 the ten teams from Ohio, Indiana, and Michigan who are close enough to Cleveland and Detroit that their fans might travel. So Eastern, Western, Central, and Ball State at Detroit and the 6 Ohio schools in Cleveland (or Cincy).

It was just a thought, but nonetheless, I think the MAC office needs to do things like this to create more attention for the league and expose MAC football to more audience. Can't just let football go through the motions if we want to make the MAC more marketable.
