The National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) announced Monday that ETSU Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Dave Mullins has been named a winner of the Under Armour AD of the Year Award (ADOY).

“I am humbled by this recognition, but this is an honor I share with our entire department – all of our administrators, coaches and student-athletes,” said Mullins, who has served as AD at ETSU since January of 2003 and was named the Southeast Division I winner. “This award is an affirmation of the steps we’ve taken to make ETSU athletics a broad-based, successful program. Every day we all work extremely hard to be one of the best programs in the country, and we have accomplished a great deal over the last seven-plus years.

“We have enjoyed record setting seasons when it comes to winning championships and raising dollars both on the corporate and donor levels. We have built three new athletic facilities with a fourth under construction. And most importantly, our student-athletes have continued to improve academically, increasing their GPAs and graduation rates every year.”

In total, 29 athletic directors across the country were honored with the distinction. There are four geographic regions - northeast, southeast, central and west; while the membership is separated into seven categories - Football Bowl Subdivision (formerly Division I-A); Football Championship Subdivision (formerly Division I-AA); Division I (formerly Division I-AAA); Division II; Division III; NAIA; and Junior/Community Colleges, along with one International winner.

All NACDA-member directors of athletics in the United States, Canada and Mexico who met the criteria were eligible for the award. Among the criteria were service as an AD for a minimum of five academic years; demonstration of commitment to higher education and student-athletes; continuous teamwork, loyalty and excellence; and the ability to inspire individuals or groups to high levels of accomplishments. Additionally, each AD's institution must have passed a compliance check through its appropriate governing body (i.e., NCAA, NAIA, etc.), in which the institution could not have been on probation or cited for a lack of institutional control within the last five years during the tenure of the current athletics director.

Nominators were NACDA-member directors of athletics, institutional presidents and conference commissioners. Special Selection Committees composed of current and former directors of athletics, present and past NCAA and NAIA presidents, current and former commissioners and other key athletics administrators voted on nominees for the award. A complete listing of Selection Committee members can be found on NACDA's Web site at http://www.nacda.com.

We know he's the best... Good for Dave! May some other school that wants Tennis to be the premiere sport will snatch him up from us!!

So, let's look at the fine print... HE NOT "THE" best AD in the universe, just one of 29 and specifically "THE" one in the southeast where's there's NO FOOTBALL... but I'm still proud of him like a pappa is proud of his son that he thinks might not ever get a prom date!!

So while I don't want to sound "PITTISH"... the headline is misleading and we have to go to the fine print to realize that our Czar of Athletics is right in there with Fowler from NC State who WAS JUST FIRED!!!!

Keep hope alive!!!!
hmmmm so does under armour want to sign us??
As Charlie Brown would say, "good grief!".

Remember....Yasser Arafat did win the Nobel Peace Prize
I'm interested to know just how many AD's met the eligibility requirements to win the award in our region. Chances are that Mullins beat out the lint covered piece of dog crap that has been sitting on the Mercer quad for the last five years.
Gosh... you guys are such negative nellies.... It looks like there are 95 schools that don't like football either and there were FOUR AD's picked, one from each directional region... SOUTHEAST looks to be around how many? 16-17? if Virginia, TN, NC, SC, GA, FL, ALA, MISS, LA would be the southeast region... I really don't know the regional breakdown and not sure I care enough to look it up.

This is a huge accomplishment, for goodness sakes!! The dude was a TENNIS COACH and now he's the CEO of a multimillion $$$ operation. Give him a break.

Ok, let's see...

My assessment stands
Such a silly little award but anything to try to rationalize stupidity.
Ahh this award is better than no award at all.
