Full Version: Any chance of renewing our intrastate rivalry with Auburn since Barbee arrived?

This is a series that makes sense for both schools imo...even if it's not played every season...every other year or so...UAB and Au have played 17 times...that's more than many of our current conference rivalries...

Another game that makes sense is Ga Tech...it's a 2 hour drive between Birmingham and Atlanta...why have we never played Tech even once???

Note: After thumbing through the series records UAB has played and defeated every team in the SEC (just some interesting trivia)
I doubt it. Didn't he say right after he took the job at Auburn that he had had enough of UAB in C-USA?

Yep
Kind of a compliment I guess..
No chance. They are wussies. No further discussion needed.
This year is Auburn's turn to "prop up" UTC in football and for Bama to "complete the circle" by "proping up" GA St to finish using Alabama millions to "prop up" all non-BCS schools in each surrounding state at least once, even going so far as Texas. Since all of our neighboring states are so much poorer than Alabama, it only makes sense for the two of them to help out by giving their neighbor's non-BCS schools our state's millions of "extra dollars" that we won't need at home.

As far as basketball is concerned, it would be good for the sport in our state to have friendly intrastate games, but since we don't need them to get national recognition, it really doesn't matter. What UAB needs to do is take care of the teams we do play and get into the Big Dance in March. The rest will take care of itself. How many times did ESPN and other announcers say "Butler hasn't lost since they played UAB". Like the LSU FB game, we now have to follow up that notice by winning more games this year. Who knows what high school players might be watching a particular game or what game an announcer will choose to mention?
Nope.

They, like our idiot cousins down I59, are cowards at heart.

No, it does not makes sense from Auburn's point of view.

I see it differently...it might not make sense for Auburn to play UAB in football because Auburn is a traditional power and could lose some serious face if we beat them on the gridiron...in hoops Auburn is an also-ran - Troy beat them last year!...will the Troy loss kill them?...it doesn't look good but it's no secret Auburn hasn't had much since Chris Porter and Marquis Daniel was in uniform...the game would draw a good crowd every couple of years...Auburn basketball pales in comparison to Auburn football...either way it doesn't sound like it's going to happen anytime soon...
The reason Auburn will not play UAB is the reason they probably won't play Troy again. While we consider them to be an also-ran, their fans want them to be competitive. That's why they are throwing a whole lot of money at Barbee. Playing games against in-state teams that can beat them is not going to help them.

As for crowds, with a new coach and a new arena, they will draw well for a while. Barbee will cheat enough to get them somewhat competitive for awhile. They don't need UAB.
Our chances are both slim and none and none winning. MB is absolutely correct.
Why on earth would they play us?

Every time we play (and beat) them, we remind them that they're not where they want to be in basketball. We remind Alabama kids that they can play big time basketball and not have to do it in Lee County.

Why would you want to be reminded that you're a basketball graveyard by your perceived inferiors?

I'd LOOOOOOOOVE to see them get a beat-down from Miles!
