LP and crew just got their 2nd verbal for the 2011 class. Two commitments this early has got to be a record. WR Tyrip Patrick from MS. He's 6'3" 184lbs http://rivals.yahoo.com/ncaa/football/re...ick-108082

Was also getting looks from
MSU
Mississippi
Louisville
S. Miss

Go Tigers!
Has to be a modern day record!

CLP is the MAN.

I was a little skeptical of the hire at first but I'm 100% on the Porter Train.

He put together a great staff and seems to be a tireless worker.

Hopefully we can get out of the 2010 season at 6-6 and then its GAME ON moving forward.

things are looking up.
i heart this .... memphis football will cecome relevant again ....
Hearing that we might have a QB and OL lined up a verbal very soon.
Nice. Keep the commits coming!
Hate to be a spoil sport here, but it's hard to get excited about a kid with literally no other offers. Time will tell if he and his staff are good talent evaluators, and in this case better than USM, OM, MSU (and every other school in the country for that matter).

Yep, you succeeded in being a "downer." Look at LP's offering trends. In 80% of the cases, our staff has been one of the 1st 3 programs to offer a player. Afterwhich, the the offers have flown in. It's been noted time and again how power of an impression it leaves on a player to be offered 1st by a program.

Let's hope that Tyrip is one of those cases. I haven't saw that I really disagree with any of the public offers. Without question, LP and staff are beating the bushes like no other staff we've had. I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt on this one, especially after securing RB Gibson 04-rock

not to be Debbie DOwner here.....verbals don't mean sh#t when we're talking about coaches like Saban or Calipari type of coaches....
I'll feel better if and when he signs a LOI.

Are you sure about that 80% claim, or are you just making that up? You're saying that for 8 out of every 10 players LP has offered we have been in the first three offers, and "subsequently the offers have flown in." I'd love to see that backed up with some facts.

Btw, looks I am not the only realistic (or as some call it on this board, "downer") Tiger fan on here. Let's face it, LP isn't going to waltz into Memphis and start landing tons of great players that are coveted by programs we aspire to be. It's going to take time, and it's going to take WINNING. So he's going to have to take some chances on kids, and we have to hope he and his staff are good talent evaluators. But let's not start making BCS bowl reservations every time we get a commitment, especially from someone with no other offers.
No one is making BCS bowl reservations, smart @ss.

But can you at least acknowledge it is a GOOD THING to have the new coach that has been on the job for all of 6 months to be getting EARLY commitments for the next recruiting class?

Porter DID waltz into town and take the Southwind DB, right? The kid Bama and others had targeted?

Go sell your realistic horse 01-scout on the SEC boards, troll.

So you are saying evaluating this player is kind of like you evaluating coaching staffs ability to spot talent early?
porter is the man... cant wait til football season

I'm saying that LP has not yet proven (as he hasn't had the chance to) that he is a better talent evaluator than anybody, let alone local SEC and CUSA schools. I don't think that's a controversial statement, and I don't see how that makes me a troll of any sort, SEC or other.

He was a 2 time recruiter of the year so yeah I would say he is a better talent evaluator than most around.

LP didn't just hatch yesterday, he's been a successful player & coach - and the #1 recruiter at LSU for the past several yrs. That alone would clearly indicate he "has proven" he's a excellent talent evaluator. You're getting recruiting and coaching confused. LP has shown he knows players, we just need to see if he can coach up what talent he gets on the field. Even that, given the proven assistants he has hired, should make us confident he will be a coaching success - as well as a proven evaluator of talent.
Did calsucks forget Porter was a recruiting coach at LSU or something? Lol.

Calsucks is a Ole Miss or UTK fan pretending to be a Memphis fan. But since both of his teams aren't any good and he has no SEC school that either school is better than he comes on here to make himself feel good.
He comes on here to start crap. I think we all once and for all should agree to ignore him and quit replying and he'll go back to the OM or UTK board where he belongs.
