put all the names of the FBS schools in a box and start picking out names until you get equal conferences

then no one can complain

Here's an even better plan to make CFB better for all.

1) NCAA mandates that conferences must have at least 8 members but cannot have any more than 10 members.
2) Eliminate the conf championship games, replace the champ games with a 13th regular season game if the revenue is needed.

This would result in more conferences, and the beauty of this situation would be that you could add more BCS bowls so that everyone would make more money, since there would be more conferences with high quality teams.

That's too random. I would like to see a college football team draft. Take the current 6 BCS AQ conference and add in C-USA and the MWC. Each conference can protect 3 teams as "franchise players". Put everyone else into the draft. Unlike the pro drafts, the best conference gets to pick first and the rest will pick in descending order of their past quality. The draft will be 9 rounds long, so everyone has 12 teams at the end of it. If you aren't one of the 96 chosen teams, pack your bags and head to FCS. All 8 conferences will have a championship game. This will be essentially like the first round of the playoffs. The 8 conference championship winners face off in the actual NCAA Football Playoffs. The bowls will still be there for the teams that don't make the 8 team playoff.

This will never happen but I'll play along
If it was all 10 that would work, w/ 120 teams. S.Alabama would be 121. Keep Army & Navy Indy and bring up 1 more FCS school 12 conf of 10.

B10 cuts Northwestern
B12 cuts Baylor, Iowa St.
ACC cuts BC, Wake Forest
SEC cuts S.Carolina, Vanderbilt

BE(10)adds Notre Dame, Boston College
SEC(10)
ACC(10)
B12(10)
MAC(10)
B10(10)
P10(10)
MWC(10) adds Boise St.
CUSA(10) adds Temple, M.Tenn St.
WAC(10) adds Montana, N.Texas
Sun Belt(10) adds Ball St., Kent St.
NewCon(10)Baylor, Wake Forest, Vandy, S.Carolina, Northwestern, Iowa St., Memphis, E.Carolina, Houston, C.Florida
Montana won't be an FBS school any time soon

Are you sure about that? I've read that they are seriously studying the move right now for when the moaratorium is lifted in 2011 on teams moving up. They own their (admittedly tiny in population) state. They're always towards the top of FCS in attendance. I think they'd be a very good fit for the WAC if they decide to make the move.

Montana is doing a FBS study right now. They might say no, they'd have to add 2 sports. If they don't go the WAC likely take Texas St. who is ready to move in 2011.

I like how theo picks that minor thing out of a whole concept that has 0 chance of happening.

I thought it was funny because that was what the comment was on instead of why does such and such school get kicked out of the SEC, ACC etc
The simplest solution would be to create a school taking the best parts of Eastern non-AQ schools; ECU's football team and tradition, UAB's (Legion Field) large and historic stadium, Temple's media market, Buffalo's AAU status and "flagship" funding, UCF's total enrollment, and FAU's local recruiting area. Then we'd have, basically, an Ohio State or Texas.

the way things are going, I can see Vanderbilt, Stanford and Texas Tech playing in the same conference; nothing is out of the question, except for FCS schools moving up
