Any good hiking within an hour drive or so, of Bowling Green ?

We are thinking about taking in a couple of MT vs. WKU baseball games this weekend, and then hiking on Sunday (games are on Thursday, Fri, Sat).

We have a one-year old, so we won't be able to go down into Mammoth Cave.
So you've been told to ' take a hike' ?:odie:
I just was there for my daughters graduation, We
hiked the "Lost River" trails right there in Bowling Green.
The boat tour was closed because of the flooding but the trails
were open and free to walk.

I checked the Mammoth Cave site, and looks like they have a lot of trails (not in a cave). We carry the little 'un in a backpack, but I think the Caves have regulations on age.

So we'll do the above-ground trails and check out Lost River, as well.

Does the city of Bowling Green have a riverfront area ?

There is not a riverfront I recall in Bowling Green but I
remember the river near beach bend park.
An amusement park for kids. Take a drive out to beach
bend. That is just a few miles outside the city.

The lost river is really close to the WKU baseball
stadium.

Yeah, if you're looking for something "not too rugged" because of the one year old then Lost River might be ideal for you. Mammoth Cave does have plenty of nature trails above ground also. Barren River State Park also has some okay trails (and would be on your way home to Murfreesboro if you take 231).

A personal fave of mine is Shanty Hollow Lake, there is a small waterfall and some unique rock formations there.

Hobson Grove is okay, I haven't been there in years. It has a golf course and an old historic house that you can take tours of.

Fountain Square Park is great for grown ups (it is right down town), there are bars all around the square and the hot rods play just down the street. Having an infant there could be a killjoy though. Here is a picture I took one morning:

Basil Griffith Park is a very nice park:

It has a little lake and it has an f-4 phantom jet that was actually flown by a BG resident during Vietnam.
So Kajun Raider, how was trip? What all did you end up doing?

Well, we went highway 231 through Lebanon, TN, and there was a damn bridge out (due to the flooding) and it took us about 40 minutes extra to get to BG.

Went to the Hobson Grove home and got there at 3:35 and last tour was at 3:30. Their website says it closed at 4pm.

Took a lot of photos at Fountain Square Park with the little one, and then drove around and checked out the College Hill District, and went to the hotel.

We had planned to go to the Chaney's Dairy Barn, but ran out of time, and then went to the game and watched MT pichers walk around 10 WKU batters and get blistered 15-5. Great crowd there, and quite a few in blue.

Got up early today, and hiked about 4 overland trails at Mammoth Cave Nat'l Park. They wouldn't let babies on a backpack in the caves.

Then we drove to Barren River State Park and checked out the facilities and looked at some of the flooding damage. Marina Parking Lot is still much under water.

We took the backroads from Barren River back to Portland, TN, and went over several bridges that got flooded, one with water still going over it with a chunk out (that my wife noticed at the last minute--the hole was hard to see due to water running over it).

Pretty decent trip for a day and a half, except for the beatdown.

Gonna make it back at some point this year to see the Hotrods play.

Speaking of the Hot Rods, Bryce Brentz is slated to go in the draft in the 15 to 25 range. Tampa Bay has the 17th and 31st pick. If the Rays drafted him he could end up playing for the Hot Rods next year.
