Here is an article that came out in today's Bowling Green Daily News concerning the SBC conference RPI.

Quote:Of all the symbols that can tell the story of a basketball season, perhaps the most descriptive for the Sun Belt Conference in recent years has been a question mark - in more ways than one.

Here’s why: The website realtimerpi.com is one of several sites that analyzes the Ratings Percentage Index, a mathematical system that ranks a college basketball team based on its own win-loss record, as well as the win-loss records of that team’s opponents and the opponents’ opponents. Realtimerpi.com uses symbols to designate certain wins and losses as being especially helpful or hurtful in the RPI shuffle.

A “good” win earns a team a dollar sign, a great win gets you a pair of them. On the other hand, a bad loss brings a question mark, while a terrible loss is accompanied by two question marks.

This past season, after the Sun Belt men’s tournament title game - a contest that, in theory, should feature the best the league has to offer - the losing team, Troy, was saddled with a question mark.

That’s right - Troy’s loss to Sun Belt champion North Texas, the league’s highest-rated RPI squad at No. 104, went into the books as a “bad” loss.

The rest of the story.
