i figured i'd make my own thread and this is all assuming that CUSA and BE aren't decimated after expansion but willing to pluck teams. lets just say that 2 of the schools with the largest market areas get pulled to join other conferences (UNT with the DFW area and FIU with MIA) after next season. with USA joining in football after this upcoming season that would put the SBC at 8 teams. why not pull in Appy St., GA Southern, Jacksonville, and Stephen F Austin into the conference. all are located in, around or near a large market areas with the exception maybe being SFA. being at 12 teams the conference would have the obvious 2 divisions of 6 teams divided into east and west with a championship game at the end of the season. to me the divisions would be arranged like so...

East:
Appy St
GA Southern
Jacksonville
FAU
USA
Troy

West:
MTSU
WKU
ASU
ULM
UL
SFA

this to me makes sense. reduces travel costs. not a bad all sports conference. the conference doesn't lose any major markets and adds potential market areas in NC, GA, and N. FL that weren't previously there. comments, concerns, objections?

I fixed it. App hasn't said anthing about FBS, they'd be good. Jacksonville is non scholly. Jacksonville St. is looking into FBS. Same with Texas St. & UTSA. SFA has not said anything about FBS. Georgia So. is looking at FBS but I think Georgia St. could jump over them. I haven't heard any new rumblings out of Ga. So.

i was thinking Jacksonville st but i dont think that having 3 teams in the same state playing in the same conference would make Troy or USA very happy. i put in SFA just for the sake of replacing a TX team with another TX team. GA St, while in a huge market, also will be swallowed up by the massive amount of GT and UGA fans in ATL. GSU is located in about 65-70 miles north-west of Savannah.
Just replace SFA with Lamar because they are interested in going FBS within 5 years. Lamar is almost done with their $26 million renovation of the football stadium and the new athletic complex. Here's a few drawings of the athletic complex and the new suites being built on the basketball arena.

it was more of a generalization that we need to keep ties in the texas region. Lamar, TxSt, UTSA would all probably be good additions (for obvious reasons probably add UTSA or TxSt because of the substantially bigger market area)

Wow, you must love the old SLC? Lamar is not playing us in baseball and basketball right now, we would not support their membership today. This would not be the lineup that most SBC programs would be interested in, if or when expansion took place.

Texas State- We play each other in many sports, so if they can make the jump they would certainly be a candidate.

UTSA- To close to Texas St., why have two programs within 50 miles of each other in the same conference? You are literally dividing the same market.

Lamar- If you must add another SLC program, Lamar is not the best of that group.

Jacksonville State- Would not N. Florida be a better choice? I don't see how JSU would excite anyone as a possible candidate.

Most SBC programs are working towards facilitiy improvements to improve their status, but I don't think this is the conference alignment that most are working towards.

Nice renderings, coach. Anymore links to drawings of the stadium/facilities improvements? Best wishes on your upgrade plans to FBS and prop for starting on the needed improvements - it'll be good to beat Lamar in football again 03-wink.
