He's been through everything that we're seeing. Grew his conference to 16. Lost 50% of the schools to another conference. Added new teams to stay afloat.

Quote:Aside from Boise State, Benson said Louisiana Tech could leave as well, possibly to Conference USA, which would line up more with its geographic location in Ruston, La.

"Louisiana Tech has been very straight forward with us and we've been very straight forward with them," Benson said. "But they realize that geographically that they are on the edge of the WAC and that they would fit more ideally with Conference USA or something within the Central time zone."

Benson said "four or five schools" have expressed interest in joining the WAC. Such schools could include Cal Davis, Cal Poly, Montana, Sacramento State, Portland State and Texas State.

"Anything west of Ruston, La. is considered in the WAC (geographic) footprint," Benson said.

The problem with the WAC is those schools are members of FCS and will need several years to move up while the WAC does not have time to wait for them.
Why not just rename it the West of the Mississippi Conference?

Benson left the MAC many years ago for the "greener pastures" of the WAC. HA! He watched as the Mountain West broke away, and now as Boise is poised to leave he talks about expansion. Please.

We could have the WMC and the MWC. How confusing would that get?

Its amazing to think that Boise was a no name school from the Big West drawing an annonymus 20k per game when the WAC made the decision to add them.

Boise had a lot of success and tradition at the FCS level though and that set them up wit some momentum in FBS.

If I were the WAC, I'd stick it to the Mountain West every chance I got.
