I saw that headline earlier today in reporting on this story:

An Airbus A-330 from Johannesburg crashed today on approach to Tripoli, Libya. Early reporting, as usual is somewhat sketchy and maybe even confusing, especially regarding fatalities and survivors. Or, in this case survivor.

A Libyan Afriqiyah Airways plane with crashed Wednesday on approach to Tripoli's airport, killing at least 96 people. A 10-year-old from Holland was the only known survivor, Libya's transport minister said.

I don't know about you, but I believe that he won't feel like the luckiest person while he deals with survivor's guilt, etc. throughout his life. He'll need lots of professional help, I'm betting.

Some reports say that a passenger wrote on twitter on final approach that the plane had a problem with its left wing. The pilot had radioed ahead for ambulances, apparently knowing he had a problem.

Another A-330 event. Hmmmmmm
Nightline talked about it tonight. A surprising number of kids have been lone survivors of plane crashes (remember the little girl who survived the Middle Belt crash in Detroit?)

An amazing stat. 95% of the people involved in a plane crash survive.
I thought you were talking about one of those African orphans breast feeding on Selma Hayek.
Actually IMO the "Luckiest kids in the world" still have both of their parents.

You could say that. That's a good call.
