Sun Belt (2 bids)

SAFELY IN: Florida Atlantic

ON THE BUBBLE (IN): Louisiana-Lafayette

ON THE BUBBLE (OUT): South Alabama, Western Kentucky, Middle Tennessee

One change from last week: Western Kentucky falls out of the field of 64 after losing a series to Arkansas-Little Rock. The Hilltoppers have lost three of their last four series and fallen to sixth place in the Sun Belt.
CUSA 1 bid ? Don't they usually have several ? Must be a real down year for them.

Besides the usual Rice, UH and the rest of the gang haven't had such good seasons this go around.

You know something is up with the Southland is getting more folks in than you are.
Southland is a (2) bid as a well.

Rumors say that Texas State will be a #3 seed in the Austin Regional
2 bids is a bad year for the SBC. We get 3 in at least every other year. I think if not 3 this year it will be a travesty. Might get 4.

I guess the 'Belt cant be the doormat of every sport, huh?

The last four years were pretty lean, but this year a two-bid year would be a travesty. The conference earned two bids in ’09, ’08 and ’06. The league earned three bids in ’07.

I rarely take Baseball America serious when it comes to bid projections. While they are very good at evaluating talent, they lack the knowledge projecting teams, etc. Rivals is sort of the the reverse, they are very good in projecting the baseball pairings, but are bad at rating the players in their power rankings.

I see three bids a 'shoe-in' and four possible, but it depends on how these teams do out of conference. Tonight was a good night.
It's still early, but with two schools in the 30's, they are definately in. Then if someone other than UL or FAU wins the tourney, there's your 3rd team. Four will be a stretch unless someone goes on a real tear and gets themselves in the top-40 RPI and one of those three doesn't win the tourney.

Basically a solid conference, top to bottom, just not quite there yet to getting nine teams in the tournament. Though we still have 7 teams within 4 1/2 games of first place; if we could get to #3 or #4 ranked conference we would get 5 in easy.
Four teams was a legitimate possiblity with USA, FAU, UL, and WKU. However, USA is on the bubble now as they do not control their destiny at a regular season title (a regular season title with a 50-60 RPI in the #5 RPI conference is almost as good as a lock). UL and FAU are staying in the 30s and barring a complete meltdown, both appear to be in the tournament. WKY was in until a recent slide has put them on the outside looking in. They have a big 3 game series this weekend in Lafayette, but its against a VERY hot team that is also playing for a chance to claim another conference regular season championship.

For constant updates on the RPI and tournament projections, check out posts by "GoneGolfin" on raginpagin.com. He used to write for SEbaseball.com and still maintains contacts with the admins there. VERY, very, very knowledgable when it comes to the RPI and tournament selections.
The Best thing for the Sun Belt bid wise this year would be for an MTSU, FIU, ASU Troy Type team to win the tourney. It would also help the league alot if ULL struggled with Western this weekend

I see 3 bids. and I say that because I dont see WKU and USA both being left out. 4 is an outside chance but a non at large team would need to beat a USA or a WKU type team in the Final to make the tourney

For what its worth here is the Sun Belt Pairings if the season ended today

Bracket 1

Troy vs Florida Atlantic
Arkansas State vs Middle Tennessee

Bracket 2

South Alabama vs Florida International
Western Kentucky vs Louisiana Lafayette

That might be what is best for the league, but not for UL. Its not a done deal that the Cajuns are in a regional. Some of the programs listed above need to improve their out of conference schedule, that is the long term solution. Geaux Cajuns!!!

I agree, MT needs to increase their OOC. They play some solid programs like Tennessee, Vandy, but they also play SIU, Jacksonville St., etc. They need to take the WKU approach and play teams like Baylor, Texas A&M.
Our coach won't play teams unless they agree to come to our home field.

Cajuns have a lot of higher RPI teams in their vicinity.

We do need to play Louisville and Georgia Tech, though, if they'll come to Murfreesboro.
