I don't think that to much Star Wars was the actual problem. Star Wars has developed two problems. Story Direction and Political Correctness. Solo was a good movie. But after episode 8 a lot of the fanbase has started to disconnect with the franchise.

Jurassic Park III / BR
--meh... a cash grab for the series... it could have been better, but it also could have been worse.

Jurassic Park Fallen Kingdom/theater
--I liked it and I did think it was better than the first one of the reboots but it also could have been improved upon in some ways.

Luke Cage S2 / NF
--In some ways better than S1 in others not so much. The Shades/Mariah thing kind of threw me off and while Mariah got better as a villain nobody really captured me like Cottonmouth from S1. I really did enjoy the whole backstory to Bushmaster and the Stokes family--that made for some interesting motives on both sides. However, I couldn't shake thinking Bushmaster reminded me of Screwface from Marked for Death.

Blade Runner / BR
--Still one of the best sci fi movies I have seen.

Blade Runner 2049 / BR
--Real talk, its not the story, the plot, or in some cases the action and drama of the movie... its the excruciatingly slow pace of the movie. I struggle to stay awake watching it. After re-watching it a few times after I got the BR last week I was able to put a lot more together about the story than my original theatrical viewing.

License to Kill / dvd
--Not quite as good as Dalton's first Bond entry but I loved the scope, story, and angle of a drug lord like Sanchez.

Basic Instinct / dvd
--I just like it.

TMNT ___ / BR
--I thought the 2nd in the new movies was way better but somehow I feel like they short changed the Krang stuff at the end. I will not mind them doing more.

Agents of Shield S_ / NF
--Just been through the first 3 episodes of the newest season the put up on NetFlix. So far so good.

Mission Impossible III / BR
--Owen Davian was a great villian and the plot was kind of cool too.

They're putting out so much content that they are watering down the desire to see new entries. Now, personally Lucas's prequels were pretty weak aside from Attack of the Clones. Episode III suffered from having to end a certain way and have certain elements having to be there so it really couldn't flow as well as it might have needed to be.

In the two newest episodes, I liked TFA for what it was. I think there was merit to how TLJ played out but somehow it got Disney-ified/Politically correct and didn't need to be and it kind of felt off with that tone. I could totally buy Luke having his head in that place though.

As far as the spin offs go, Rogue One was pretty legit as a movie. Solo, suffered from it being about a major character but not having that actor most tied to it playing Solo. I thought they did a lot right and picked up a lot of cool plot points and back story elements to deliver a watchable movie.

I think they are going to need to rethink their plans and do a every other year rotation if they are hell bent doing lots of core and spin off titles to bring to the theaters.

Saw Antman & The Wasp last night. About on par with the level of humor from the 1st movie.
There are 2 credit scenes. The 1st one matters, the 2nd one is more for fun.

Going this weekend. Can't wait. I liked the comedic route to the first one--making it feel different from all the others. Also the small/large gags were great.

Saw it Thursday night.

It was fun, kinda like the first one.

More importantly, it was a nice upbeat change of pace from the rather somber Infinity War movie.

Ant Man & The Wasp / theater
--I arguably like this one better than the first one. This movie, along with the first Avengers and Thor Ragnarok manages to strike the right cords with humor, drama, and action. My only real beef with it was the billed "Ghost" villain just wasn't very villainy. Lots of cool effect shots in this one for sure and that first bonus scene at the end....

I also liked it more than the first one, and I very much enjoyed that movie. They did a good job keeping the stakes pretty low and personal, as opposed to the typical end of the world, doom and gloom. It was also just as funny, if not more so, than the first movie. Yes, Ghost was something of a let down I suppose, but in the end I felt like Peyton Reed didn't intend her to be a villain, but rather just a source of conflict. There was no real villain, but rather a group of personalities who each had different goals and motivations and seeing how they could come together to achieve each goal despite the roadblocks. If Marvel makes another good Ant Man movie, they'll have pulled off the making of a successful Ant Man trilogy. Did anyone think that would be possible a decade ago?

Loved MI: Fallout
Have to wonder if this is Cruise's last MI movie.

M.I. - Fallout

REALLY good. back to the days of those edge of your seat action movies. Only complaint is that it did drag a bit at times, but overall great.

The Meg

Just what you'd expect. A throwback to the old B movie cheesy fun days. A bit less gory than expected, but it didn't try and take itself too serious.

Equalizer 2

Love Denzel. The guy's a fricking bad ass and it comes thru in this. Wish they'd make more of those "kick your ass" movies.

Skyscraper

Similar to The Meg. Cheesy fun and knows it.

I thought Fallout was OK. The bathroom fight scene was great, but it had a predictable face/heel turn. With the death of Baldwin's character, I felt this would have been the movie where Hunt actually gets kicked upstairs to run IMF as opposed to still being in the field. It would introduce some drama that as been absent in the series since MI:3. Though I guess the series is going the Fast and Furious route.

After seeing the movie though I do agree with Cruise that Cavill had to keep his moustache.

I'm kind with you on the overuse of droids as comic relief. IMO, C3PO and R2D2 were just droids with personalities and while they in essence were comic relief is was more "their deal" than just being comic relief. BB8 was decent. I liked the droid from Rogue One as he was reprogrammed so he could kind of be that way. But, the one in SOLO seemed completely out of place and it was just kind of weird about it and Lando's "relationship."

I think a Han Solo back story could be kind of cool in that finding out how he got the fastest ship in the galaxy, why he got into the line of work he got into, what would have been his life experiences to give him the feelings he had about The Force, the universe, and why he was the way he was. The problem with Solo is you are doing a prequel based one of the more beloved characters of the franchise that was made beloved solely by the Harrison Ford played the role. The new movie did dole out some points about what got him to the place he was mentally about things but some of it just felt kind of flat.

Personally, I think Disney saw the Star Wars license as a golden parachute for a windfall of money and they are going to milk it for all its worth. I think they are burning out the public with a movie a year turn around cycle. Maybe they need to slow it down and have projects out every other year and put that extra time into development of quality scripts, and quality cinema.

There is as stronger chance that Disney will make Disney World free before this happens.

Supergirl S_ / NF
--So far, this last season was one of the best ones in the series. I liked how they took some of the cheese out and went with an interesting story arc with Mon El and her parents. I think one of the issues I have with the show is the shoehorned in one episode dealings with controversial issues that just don't seem very well developed or they take the opposite direction and come heavy handed on some stuff such as Guardian's run in with the police, the strains of the relationship between her Earthly sister and her gay lover, said gay lover's relationship with her father/family ... I did find they attacked John Johns issues with his long lost dad and their reintroduction to each other along with him entering into issues with dementia a pretty potent story arc.

True Justice S1/ NF
--Saw Steven Segal had a tv series on NF and so I started watching it. I liked the 90m episode setup and I liked the story arcs they took you through. It was interesting to see him with a cop drama set up in Seattle. The only odd thing I thought about the series was the edits to some of Segal's fights, and the kind of weird transition from local undercover Seattle police unit to Segal getting back in with the CIA for some action in dealing with the larger overall story arc. I found the point at which that transition occurred to be awkward but story got no less interesting.

Voltron S7 / NF
--4 Episodes in and yeah... its still good IMO....

Mission Impossible Fall Out: Theater
--Really good tying of lose ends to some characters. Yeah, Cavill felt off the beginning but I liked his chemistry with Cruise as the ass hole. The action was top notch and I really liked the multiple movie story arc involving the main bad guy. I gotta this series has been on a roll lately with its choices.

Christopher Robbin / Theater
--I agreed with my brother's assessment that the cinematography and mood was kind of depressing for their story. But, they nailed the Pooh characters in terms of their personalities and it was a interesting way to go with making them live stuffed animal characters ala the Ted movies. I found the story to be the same ol same ol about kid grows up and gets into a workplace rut once he hits adulthood and all the responsibilities that brings but all can be solved my taking time to be with family and having fun. My only caution about going to see this movie is be prepared that its no a "fun" movie like the Pooh characters would lead you to believe but a serious movie about the changes adulthood brings for certain people.

Harry Potter _______________ (final movie in the series) / BR
--Just wanted to watch it. It was super dark and a interesting end to the entire story.


Agents of SHIELD / S_
--IDK.... somehow this last season that has gone up on NF just hasn't grabbed me. I've been easily pulled away by other shows and movies.

Mission Impossible I, IV, V, and VI / BR
--Went back through the old ones to get beefed back up on the points that might have come to light in Fallout. Skipped on II just because.... I do like that one however.

Justice League Dark / BR
--Got this as a Bday present last week. Man, I really liked the Dark Justice characters. A very solid entry by the DC animated team.

Teen Titans vs. Justice League (?) / BR
--My brother got this on a pretty darn good sale at BBY. I really liked the dynamic between Batman's son as Robbin and his dad and having to be assigned to the Teen Titans group. I thought this was a solid entry into the DC animated universe.

Bad Blood / BR
--Another BR my brother got that went into all the issues amongst Batman, his partners as Bat-variants AND all the Robins that have trickled through his bat cave. I found this one to be a pretty solid entry into the DC animated universe as well.

Kill Bill V1 / BR
--Just a bad ass movie. Too bad the 2nd one felt sub-par to the first one. However, I think as a complete work it was a great movie. Even if the reasoning out by Bill over why Beatrix didn't die and their feud was kind of lame.

Toy Story 3 / BR
Lots O Huggin Bear... yeah.... lol ....one of the series better villains aside from Sid.

Deadpool 2/BR
--Solid follow up IMO. I liked a lot of the humor in it and the X Force thing... heh....

Ex Machina / NF
-- That was way more sadistic and interesting than I would have thought from the previews. IMO, it had a Matrix + Ghost in the Shell + Blade Runner +in some regards a Space Odyssey 2001 vibe. I found the psych test and the AI doing simulation versus real response a really interesting delve into AI and consciousness. The AI's responses kind of got me thinking down that HAL3000 responses kind of thinking. Then, the bringing up of Watson and chess playing, was a very interesting discussion of AI and how it works... and where does it go. The whole conscious AI angles really brought in angles from GitS and BR. I found that ending to be very intriguing as well.

Voltron S7/ NF
--Completed it. Still going strong with the content. That ending though.... If they keep the quality up like they have I have no reason to wish them to stop the series. And with some of the stuff brought up in this last season.... I wonder if Vehicle Voltron isn't too far off from coming into being.

Mile 22 - I was pleasantly surprised by this one. Good action, decent suspense, fairly good story, interesting "twist". It's worth a look, especially when it hits Amazon or Netflix.

A.X.L. - Cookie cutter movie. Evil military/corporation, abused subject, loner "hero" pretty girl. Might be a good kid option other than animated.

Not trying to hijack the movie thread but I hope it is okay to post tv shows here as well as I couldn't find a thread for that. Found out today that True Detective is making 3rd season. The first season was probably my most anticipated show to watch. Absolutely loved it. The second I endured. Here's a trailer to the upcoming season and a reaction to the second.

I tapped out after season 2. But did enjoy the books.

Operation Finale - Pretty decent suspense, thriller, drama. Great story, well acted. I liked it. Probably a matinee or Netflix watch.

Kin - Perhaps the worst movie I've seen this year. Misleading trailer, dumb story, boring as heck. Could have gone several directions with this movie, they chose the worst one.
