I thought the Bates discussion warranted it's own thread instead of being buried in the Bacari Alexander thread.

http://www.mlive.com/broncos/index.ssf/2...h_bac.html

So who wants to take the next punch, er, post the next comment? You guys were throwing some haymakers in the BA thread, that's for sure. So is Bates leaving or no? Is Pittsburg a done deal? Why is all of this being treated so mysteriously? With all the coaching merry go arounds in college basketball will we really have a hard time landing some quality replacements?
Bates needs to be fired now. Why is Hawkins showing an ounce of loyalty when all he's done is stab him in the back REPEATEDLY.

You should REALLY evaluate your source for that one.

My source is Couch's article. But it's not all that difficult to connect the dots. Bates left for the private sector to spend more time with his family. He didn't like it apparently because he came back a year later. He got back in when Hipsher was canned.

Now I don't know all the facts and I'm sure you are much closer to the Bates situation than any of us. If there's a family crisis in the Bates family that requires their presence in Pittsburgh that's another issue. But if it's a case of grabbing a job opportunity for more money, and moving closer to his wife's family, then he's just being an opportunist................just like he was when Hawk brought him back.

Bottom line for me, if it's about family issues and proximity, then he deserves time. If it's about $$ and proximity then sever the relationship and start looking for a new coach.

The dots that you have connected don't begin to approach reality.
It's either business, or personal family reasons. If it's "A" then we need to move on. If it's B, then give him time. At some point Hawkins has to deal with the needs of the program which is to have a coach in place and out recruiting.

Frankly, this wishy washy chit should have never been leaked to Couch. It does nothing but give the program a feeling of instability that other coaches will use against us. "They can't keep their coaches."

The Hipsher thing has always bothered me. Was he let go for improprieties? If so, did Bates came back to help out Hawkins? Or was Hipsher let go so Bates could return?

Classic. You get your jones off from allying yourself with as many people as you can on this stupid message board, I get it.

My opinion is based on what is best for WMU basketball, not who will like me. Leaving the program hanging is not what's best for it.

This isn't being handled well. Don't leak it to the media, cause it will be used against you in recruiting, and if you do leak it to the media say he's leaving for family reasons, health reasons, etc. If he's leaving for a better job, then sever the tie and get on with finding a replacement.

Oh get over yourself, you were the one scolding me for joking that Hawk hung out at a sports bar too often when I was only having fun with the kids who have been saying this for over a couple of years.

You got righteous saying it was none of my business, now an assistant is REPORTED to be looking at other options and you soil yourself with your dismay. 03-melodramatic
Two hours ago you twittered that you were going mountain biking............and then proceeded to never leave this site.

I don't think Hawk's bar room behavior was ever written about in the news. This is. It ceases to be private at that point.

Only got a two hour ride in, weathered in, lightning was on the horizon. That, and I don't tweet. That's for recruits and people that worship them.
2 hours is a good ride. Good job way to keep that heart attack away.
You ride?
