Maybe we can actually focus on improving the country and saving tax payer's money.

If you're really concerned about crime from Mexico coming over the border, you wouldn't build a pathetic wall to keep them out. You'd give them no reason to come at all. Common sense FTW.

So we should be a nation builder and take over Mexico to make it a better place. The mexican people should overthrow their government.

Also, when all of the illegal aliens come in, our country will be in the same financial condition as Mexico. Then there will be no reason to come here.
Well at least you read the article, understood exactly what was implied by the post and what the article was about and then you made a rational comment that was completely related to what was discussed in that article. Thanks for stopping by.

If we were to get rid of the welfare state, and now free health care, then we could keep the free-loaders from crossing the border too. The only people who would want to enter the US would be tourists and people who are willing to work.

We already have too many home grown free-loaders.
Glad to see another person read the article and posted something related to it.

I completely agree with what the article is saying. I have favored the decriminalization of drug possession for a long time. Criminalizing alcohol did not work during Prohibition, and it is very obvious that criminalizing drugs is not working today. We need to control them, make them legal, educate people about their use, and provide therapy. All this would be cheaper than the price we are now paying for the drug war, both in capital and human lives.

P.S. And while we're at it, can anyone proivide me with a rational argument as to why prostitution - sex between two consenting adults - is illegal??

Well, it used to be that keeping prostitution and drugs illegal was a hallmark of the Right. They essentially argue that prostitution and drugs should be illegal because they are immoral, and are harmful to society as a whole, no matter what your individual rights are. At least, that's what the lamestream media would have you believe. It's all the Christian Right's fault.

Now, with the Left in charge, they essentially feel that everyone should have health care, and those who can not afford it should have the costs forced out of those who can (spread the wealth around). Therfore, if you are leading an unhealthy lifestyle, full of drugs and visits with prostitutes, then you might end up saddling the rest of society with the your health care.

Neither side is content with Government just leaving you alone.
The left would like you to be able to do it, they would just tax you for saddling the rest of society with your problems so we can afford to pay for it. Like we currently do with cigarettes and alcohol.

I can't really understand the appeal of a prostitute, I think I'd be far too concerned to get an STD to be able to enjoy it, but I don't really see the point of banning it either. Just seems to make it more dangerous for those involved and wastes tax dollars on police officers who have better things to worry about than some scumbag paying for sex. I'd much rather my tax dollars went to something more productive like education.

When you have all these school's that Klake talks about, that have no money to pay for anything, it makes wasting billions of dollars on scumbags using drugs and going to prostitutes seem even more ridiculous.
Legalizing prostitution would increase tax revenue, decrease crime and allow police departments to focus on more important issues. Chicago has huge Vice squads that could be re-assigned to help with the violence. Instead of arresting two consenting adults, they could be stopping innocent children from being killed. To me there is no down side to legalization.
Another huge tax savings for legalizing drugs like marijuana would be the tremendous income family farmers would earn from growing it. The Fed Gov't could be responsible for testing what was being grown and sold to make sure that it had no impurities or harmful chemicals in it. Of course it would be taxed and therefore contribute to society. Also by allowing family farmers to grow it you would keep small and mid sized farms profitable and then be able to wean farmers off of gov't price supports and "welfare" they receive for the other crops and agricultural goods they produce. Marijuana could be a huge profit center for farmers, have some gov't control and provide the public who wants to partake in it with a safer product.

I propose we call it New New Mexico. New Mexico would just be Mexico. Arizona will be New Mexico.
