DENTON, Texas (4/15/10) - North Texas head basketball coach Johnny Jones signed yet another Louisiana All-State player, Ronald McGhee, to a National Letter of Intent.

McGhee (6-5 / 190 / G / Istrouma High School / Baton Rouge, La.) ranks as one of Louisiana's top prospects, and joins Josh White and Kedrick Hogans as former Louisiana First-Team All-State standouts on the North Texas roster.

"We're excited about the signing of R.J. McGhee. He will come in and make an immediate impact at our guard position," Jones said. "He has uncanny ability to score the ball from the outside and has the knack for getting to the basket. On the defensive end of the floor he will be another guy that has the ability to be a lockdown defender, and we're excited to have him apart of our Mean Green family."

A 6-5 guard with excellent shooting touch, McGhee averaged 22.4 points, 5.0 assists and 4.0 rebounds per game as a senior at Istrouma High School. Those averages earned him District 7-4A MVP honors, as well as a First-Team All-State nod from the Louisiana Sports Writers Association.

McGhee was the engine behind the Indians' 29-6 record, helping Istrouma advance to the Class 4A quarterfinals, where they lost to eventual state champion Peabody.

The Baton Rouge Daily Advocate named McGhee to their All-Metro Team, and he participated in the Louisiana High School Coaches Association All-Star Game. Hoopscooponline.com listed McGhee among the top 350 players in the nation regardless of position.

McGhee joins former Nebraska Cornhusker Alonzo Edwards in the North Texas 2010 spring signing class. Texashoops.com ranked Edwards as the No. 13 player in the state coming out of Klein Forest High School, and spent two seasons at Nebraska before transferring to Lon Morris College.

North Texas is coming off its fourth straight 20-win season, as well as a second Sun Belt title and NCAA Tournament trip in the last four years. Wednesday marked the first day of the spring signing period which lasts until May 19.
The math of available college scholarships continues to be a mystery.

So do we have one left to give? Tramiel Thomas and Mangrum are gone and we have signed two.
