Could someone please answer this question: Since UNO will leave he conference as of July 1, what would that to to next year's basketball tournament?

Curtis- I have no specific information on this, but since there will be balanced divisions next year after the departure of UNO, my guess is that the tournament might well be set up on the model that the SEC uses. The top two teams from each side get byes, then go from there.

Actually, as the SEC demonstrated this year, that is really not the best and most equitable way to do things. The SEC west was very weak this year yet still got two top seeds. The Big 12 model of seeding teams without regard to divisions is probably more equitable.
Divisions work when you have more than 10 teams as the schedule is not balanced.

I wasn't talking about divisions, they will exist for scheduling purposes. I was talking about ignoring divisions for seeding purposes in the conference tournament.

That wouldn't make our four Western division banners look as good, would it.01-lauramac2

I would think the Division winners will still get byes. The question will be who will get the other 2 byes- the second place teams from each Division or the teams with the next 2 best records, regardless of Division. I think if you have Divisions you might as well use the SEC format.
MJS has stated the options. The 2 division winners will get byes. The question is whether to give the other two byes to the division runners up or to the two teams with the next best record.

I can live with it either way, but if I had a vote I would go with the two runners up.

Either way, each tournament just got 1 game shorter.
