So far, the Big East is in danger of looking like the Big Ten of years past... How is G'Town down 15 to the 9th best team in the MAC?

Notre Dame (expected) and 'Nova (not exactly) looked like crap, and I expect Marquette to struggle with Washington. With Onuaku out for Syracuse, Bob Huggins and his less-than-stellar recent tourney resume coaching WVU, Louisville less than a lock, and Pitt looking shaky at the end of the year, things don't look good going forward.

We all have bashed the Big Ten for past tourney performance - should we look in the mirror this year??

I'd say a healthy OU is the 3rd best team in the MAC... they were the 9 seed, but the best 5 MAC teams were all in the east. OU is much better than their record...

Still... NINE SEED IN THE MAC TOURNEY. that is crazy.

Mark, until we both get screwed by G'Town, we're looking good in the Bearcat Banter Pick 'em...

Just for the record, I spend A LOT less time on this than you do, at least as I can surmise by the ridiculously detailed tournament assessments you've done so far. GOOD LUCK!
BE is doing horrible, Marquette just lost
yeah, my bracket already is crap after the first day.
These early exits will fuel the arguments that the Big East should go back to the original Big East tournament format.
This conference season was such a grind game to game that I wonder if kids took a deep breath whenthey saw they had a team coming up that is not a BE squad.

Some conferences don't prepare teams enough for the NCAA. Wonder if some grind teams up too much? Dunno.
Anywhere from 5 days to a week for rest and preparation since the BE tournament. No excuse.
The seedings this year were horrible. Makes for great basketball and upsets but in reality the better teams won in most instances. GTown and Vanderbilt were the upsets.

I looked at the RPI of the ND game and the Marquette game. ODU was 27 and ND was 48. Marquette was 5O and Wash was 41. You could argue, both Big East teams overachieved. Gtown was inexplicable. I thought they were playing as well as anyone in the Big East but they were the tied for 6th in the Big East. Remember, the teams that lost were the 6,7 and 8th Big East teams in the tourney.
I wouldn't worry too much. ND was overseeded to begin with and Marquette faced a team that matched up well with their style. Georgetown is obviously a bad showing.

I'd be more concerned if the Big East struggled tomorrow. If they lost games early, I think it was fair to say it would be today. Wouldn't be surprised to see all 4 Big East teams advance tomorrow.
The only surprise for the Big East yesterday was Georgetown losing.

I'm not surprised at all at Marquette and ND losing. ND was extremely overseeded. They should have been closer to an 11 seed than a 6 IMO.

And Marquette simply had a tough matchup against a talented team.
I like how people say ODU and other small conference teams automatically would finish in the top 8 in the Big East because they won a game in the tourney(bearcatnews). It's a lot different playing 1 game against the BEast than playing 18 straight. That's why the Big East is so tough, and why mid major teams would struggle to finish in top 8-10 in the beast.
Glad I changed my initial bracket. My first pass had Georgetown losing in the title game, but I decided against that and had them losing to O$U. The Big East proved itself non-conference and teams are beaten down. The top 4 teams are strong, though Nova has run out of gas lately I believe. I still think WVU and Syracuse will be in for good runs. I think Nova could struggle with St. Marys who is under-rated and Baylor will likely give them fits if they get by St. Marys. We shall see, but the Big East had a great season regardless of what happens. Considering all the big wins the Big East had this year early on, it is not an over-rated conference. Just beaten up and injured.

Maybe a couple people on Bearcatnews think that but I highly doubt you'd hear anyone that actually knows a thing or two about basketball make any comments like that.

That's what most Big 6 Conference fans and the national press said about the last 4 Memphis teams.

How many times did you hear or read that when Memphis was either a #1 or #2 seed? The predictions were that Memphis would be the first high seed to be upset because they don't play good competition in the CUSA?

Memphis, UK.........Calipari.

I hope they all get burned by Calipari's sleaziness.
'Nova gone. Big East stinking it up.
St Marys was a bad matchup but Reynolds looked like he ran out of gas in the tourney. But Nova was in the game until the guy banked a 28 foot 3 pointer.

The fact that you had to say "Nova was in the game until..." says it all... It was the #2 seed vs. the #10 seed St. Marys, not Duke or Kansas.

Don't know why things are so bad this year for the BEast in the tourney, but it will sure make everyone forget the impressive year last year.
