Naw ya think! Here is the link

I really get all bent out of shape when hollywood tries to make something seem worse than what would happen in reality. I know bird flu could be bad, but I believe that officials will get a good plan in place if it does get bad.

Thoughts?
ooooh it's sooooooo scary, like SARS... oh wait, like the anthrax mail...oh wait.

bird flu will probably affect 30-50% of the numbers that were hit by SARS and Anthrax mail COMBINED. which will be about 40 people.

Why are we so freaked out about this stuff when Cancer, AIDS, and so many OTHER diseases kill thousands upon millions around the world each year?

"ooh i know i'll save 6 people and look like a genius because i stopped the bird flu, plus it's too hard to find a cure for AIDS, Cancer, etc...."

dumb ass drug companies
I thought about the same thing when I saw the previews to the movie. Last year, right before Katrina, FX made a movie about the oil shortage in America and how people paniced, etc. Hollywood is just playing on people's fears and what's in the news.
Anyone ever heard of the Spanish bird flu? I'm pretty sure everyone took that threat pretty seriously when it killed millions worldwide.

The world's population is over 6 billion, we won't miss a million or so.
Not even if it's granny?

That's one quarter of the population of Alabama.

That just topped the list of silliest thing I read today.
Wow. Stunner tops the list of stupid things said in a thread with a Sax post. Amazing.

Have any of you read the government's report on a bird-flu pandemic? You should. It's scarier than the movie. No federal support, no money will ever be available for local governments, they are relying on "a community sense of responsibility" to help handle a pandemic. They also predict 2 million dead Americans in a worst-case scenario.

I'd like to highlight WORST-CASE SCENARIO. That means over 2 million people come down with the flu at the same time and die. More than likely, I think the disease would be contained to the area where the infections start. In the end, the government would provide some sort of aid. The problem with this scenario is there is no way to predict what is going to happen and by not having a set national plan avoids hurricane katrina type controversy.
A flu pandemic would make Katrina look like a walk in the park. Say goodbye to elderly, kids, and the unlucky.

I work for a family practice. Front line health care. I devoutly pray it does not happen because it won't be pretty if it does.
From what I heard about that movie, the only panic I had was that Hollywood may make even more of those type movies. The acting was horrible.
