I have assumed that apart for the automatic qualifiers for the NCAA and NIT, teams with losing records would not go to post season. However, there are so many slots out there with the four tournaments that that may not be the case. Were there any last season?

Yes. In in the CBI. I recall St. Johns was like 13-16. Can't recall who else may have been below .500
Ciny was a couple games under .500 but played inthe Big East.
