Review of the Year – League Standings

Since most of the ASun teams are done for the year, I thought it would be fun to review a little. How did the coaches and media pick the league to finish? Which teams overachieved and which underachieved?

Here is the Coach’s Achievement Standings:

Picked Finished +/-

6 - 1 - +5 Campbell
5 - 1 - +4 Belmont
11 - 8 - +3 Kennesaw St.
9 - 7 - +2 UNF
10 - 9 - +1 USC Upstate
1 - 1 - E Jacksonville
1 - 1 - E Lipscomb
4 - 5 - -1 Eastern Tennessee State
7 - 10 - -3 FGCU
3 - 6 - -3 Mercer
7 - 10 - -3 Stetson

Here is the Media’s Achievement Standings:

6 - 1 - +5 Campbell
11 - 7 - +4 UNF
4 - 1 - +3 Belmont
2 - 1 - +1 Lipscomb
9 - 8 - +1 Kennesaw St.
10 - 9 - +1 USC Upstate
1 - 1 - E Jacksonville
5 - 5 - E Eastern Tennessee State
7 - 10 - -2 FGCU
3 - 6 - -3 Mercer
7 - 10 - -3 Stetson

Sorry, I had trouble getting the standings to line up.
Neat recap. Thanks. What's your guess for next year's standings?
Eastern Tennessee State? Surely you are just trying to piss us off right?

Just having some fun. We had to put up with ESPN calling our coach "Ricky Byrd."
I hate those eastern tennessee bucs

Mercer. I don't know about you, but I'm sorta gettin' attached to using that name when referring to the team to our east.

I'll throw a blind guess out there...

1. Lip will likely be more committed to D next year after early exit, will make them better and more desperate since key players will be Sr.
EDIT: Will also solidify their top ranking as the most despised team in the league!
2. ETSU seems to have figured themselves out late with fortuitous tourny bracket + Mike Smith coming back should be good.
3. Belmont if freshman make improvement like Hanlen did to Soph season, will be dangerous. Still a little slow in the front court.
4. Mercer still has good guards, losing talent in the post
5. Jax won't have scoring punch like this year could finish lower
6. KSU has the athletes, need more consistency, could surprise though
7. UNF on the rise, not quite enough talent to run in the upper half yet
8. Stetson lots of new talent coming in, could finish higher
9. Camp losing lots of talent
10. FGC Bruin killers, but not much else
11 USCU without 7'3" post......

1-3 order could change but should be those three teams
spots 4-10 could go a lot of different ways
Funny, I have the same reasons for #4 and #9 only the teams reversed. Campbell returns Hartley and Merthie for a strong backcourt while Mercer is now sans Emerson, Florence and Kusnyer - not very appealing on paper.

I think it's a keeper...

J-Rod literally put that Campbell team on his back in the quarterfinals and it still wasn't enough.
