Sounds like other entities will have the chance to bid on the ACC rights. FOX has been rumored to have been sniffing around. If I can get a full copy of the article, I'll post here.
Sounds like a good opportunity for us to add a few dollars to our wallets.
The best move would be for the ACC to ink a new deal with Fox. That would free up ESPN to work with the Big East on a bigger and better deal next time around.
Agreed, the ACC bringing most of its content to the Fox platform would be very good for the Big East.
Now, if only the ACC will take Dickie V along to FOX as well...

I love this part of the article:

The current combined football and basketball package, per SBJ, pays the ACC $70 million per year. The ACC reportedly has aimed for $120 million annually for its new deal.

(Good luck with all that.)

I've always been surprised that more conferences haven't tried to hook up with the NFL Network.

That being said, it's not a good thing for the other conferences for the ACC to be struggling in its negotiations (even if you personally hate them and wish them ill will). That's a huge sign that ESPN has already paid the max amount to the SEC and Big Ten and won't be spending much more on college sports. ESPN can afford to pay the most by FAR, so just negotiating with them gives you leverage with other networks. If ESPN isn't willing to pay up, that makes it much less likely that other networks would pay up.
Yep...nobody is going to be making anything close to SEC/Big Ten money.

Yes, you cross ESPN at your own risk. Even when the Big Ten created its own network, it made sure that it still expanded its presence on ABC/ESPN at the same time (which I don't think many people realized is what happened).
Isn't it too soon to say tepid?

The current $70 million includes the Raycom deal for bb. And the anticipated $120 million that the ACC is looking for includes all sports combined.

Cheers,

That's not necessarily true. I'm sure there are other networks that would pay top dollar for the Big East's basketball package. As good as the ACC's basketball is, the Big East seems to have more glitz and glamour, especially with MSG. I still think it's amusing that they're struggling considering they have personally wished ill will on us even when it hurt them.

I don't think the NFL Network is ideal for the ACC. The Carolinas are ACC territory where Time Warner is the dominant cable provider. Time Warner is also the one major cable company that is still an NFL Network holdout.

Now if the ACC can deliver NFL Network into Time Warner homes, that'd be a boon to the network.

The ACC, through IMG negotiator Barry Frank, wanted that increase rights fee. I think its hitting them that it isn't necessarily going to happen with ESPN. The ACC had a boatload of conference games get shifted over to ESPN360, again not available to Time Warner, and that can't please them either.

Perhaps shows why NFL Network might be interested in getting the ACC.
I don't know how things are where you guys live, but I'd consider the NFL Network about 5 steps below Versus and wouldn't want anything besides minor games getting anywhere close to it.
With so many channels out there, I can't imagine ACC or the BE don't have other options outside VS, NFL Network, ESPN, Fox etc. Someone else got to be interested in College Sports.

Other posters are right, if ACC negotiation goes bad, it might not look good for other conferences that follow also. SEC got lucky as hell with their timing.
