Stephenson named to all-rookie team
Posted by bkoch March 7th, 2010, 3:38 pm

A UC basketball program starved for some good news in the wake of five losses in its last six regular-season games received some today when freshman guard Lance Stephenson was one of two unanimous selections to the Big East’s all-rookie team.

The league also released its all-conference teams. No UC player made first, second or third team and none received honorable mention.

Stephenson is the third UC player to make the all-rookie team since UC joined the Big East in 2005, joining Deonta Vaughn (2006-07) and Yancy Gates (2008-09).

The pre-season rookie of the year, Stephenson led all Big East freshmen in scoring in overall (12.0 ppg) and conference-only games (12.1 ppg). He also finished in the Top 5 overall in rebounds (5.3 rpg/4th), steals (1.0 spg/5th), and assists (2.4 apg/4th).

Stephenson, along with the other four all-Rookie team selections (Alex Oriakhi, UConn; Vincent Council, Providence; Dane Miller, Rutgers; Brandon Triche, Syracuse; Maalik Wayns, Villanova), are candidates for the Big East rookie of the year award which will be announced tomorrow.

Congrats to Lance 04-bow
"No UC player made first, second or third team and none received honorable mention"

Not surprising at all.
Hopefully makes an Evan Turner type jump next year and goes from a good freshman to one of the top players in the country.
Congrats to Lance. The only one on this team who seems to care. Maybe Cash and Jaquon too. Thomas I guess. The rest of the team, Ive written off.
Congrats to Lance. Glad you're here next year. And I believe you will improve because you're the type of player that cares about his own performance and the performance of his team. I really look forward to seeing you play next year.

In other news, Mick Cronin was said to be petitioning the Big East to expand the All Conference teams to fifth and sixth teams, because his guys played well in the first half in recent games.
